SUMMARY OF POSITION:


The neurologist will diagnose and treat the disease of the brain as well as any impairment to the spinal cord, autonomic nervous system, peripheral nerves, muscle and blood vessels that are associated with any of these structures. Provides specialty medical care to patients at the NEMS clinics and performs related duties.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Sees patients referred from NEMS PCPs. Provides consultations in collaborative care model. 
  • Examines and investigates potential neurological conditions in patients such as dementia, stroke, movement disorders and neuromuscular diseases.
  • Advises patients and families about conditions, treatments, prognosis, and side effects.
  • Provides patient-specific treatment plans and interventions to manage and treat conditions.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic images and tests to diagnose neurological conditions.
  • Develops a plan of care for each patient, including: complete medical history, physical examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment and/or referral, including hospitalization when necessary.
  • Prescribes and/or administers treatment and medication
  • Monitors the behavioral and cognitive side effects of treatment and medication
  • Participates in neuroscience research activities and keeps up-to-date with neurological developments, treatment and medication
  • Uses all available resources in diagnosis and treatment, such as laboratory and radiological testing, in an appropriate and cost efficient manner.
  • Confers with primary care physicians, nurse, patients, and patient’s families concerning treatment and care of patients.
  • Refers those cases which require additional specialist services, but maintains responsibility, assuring that continuity of care is provided.
  • Adheres to ethical, professional and legal requirements as mandated by federal, state, local and funding agencies.
  • Documents electronically with NEMS EHR system.
  • Attends all medical staff meeting and participates in the community health center’s Quality Assurance program.
  • Assists in the training of para-professional and non-medical personnel if needed.
  • Provides guidance to other health team members in the development of health education materials and programs for registrants and the community at large.
  • Provides training or teaching, when appropriate, to medical students, medical residents, nursing students, and other students who come to NEMS for training.
  • Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Graduation from an accredited school of medicine
  • Current active state medical license and Federal DEA license.
  • Ability to work as team with other health professionals and non-medical personnel.
  • Board eligible or certified in Neurology.
  • Current documentation of Basic Life Support is required.
  • Is able to work in clinics in SF, SM and SC counties on rotational basis.

 

LANGUAGE:

 

  • Must be able to fluently speak, read and write English.
  • Fluent in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) preferred, Vietnamese, Spanish and other languages may be required depending on location.
  • Fluency in other languages are an asset.

STATUS:


This is an FLSA exempt position.

This is an OSHA high-risk position.

This is a full-time position. 

Skills Required

  • Board eligible or board certified in Neurology
  • Current documentation of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Ability to work as a team with other health professionals and non-medical personnel
  • Ability to document and use NEMS EHR system
  • Fluent in English (speak, read, write)
  • Fluent in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin)
  • Fluency in Vietnamese, Spanish or other languages (location dependent)
