UnspecifiedWe are presently seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Network Specialist to join our team. You will play a critical role in designing, installing, and maintaining IT network infrastructure across multiple sites in Canada. Your expertise will ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our network systems to support organizational operations. This position will be located at our offices in either Calgary, Alberta or Ottawa, Ontario.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, and install new network systems, including hardware (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls) and software, to support business operations effectively.
- Perform routine maintenance, schedule updates, and execute upgrades to ensure network systems operate at peak performance.
- Implement and manage network security measures, such as firewalls, access controls, and encryption, to protect against cyber threats and ensure compliance with NIST 800-171 standards.
- Utilize SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk) for detecting anomalies, performing packet analysis, and leading rapid mitigation efforts to resolve hardware and software issues.
- Configure and maintain firewalls, integrating Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) and Advanced Malware Protection (AMP) to monitor, filter, and secure network traffic.
- Manage secure network access using tools like Cisco ISE (Identity Services Engine), implementing RADIUS/TACACS+ protocols or similar centralized authentication systems.
- Securely extend on-premises networks to cloud environments while maintaining scalability and security.
- Provide technical support to end-users, troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues, and communicate network status and updates to stakeholders.
- Maintain detailed records of network configurations, installations, and maintenance activities for reference and compliance purposes.
- Implement and enforce network policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, security, and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Support various IT initiatives and projects to contribute to overall organizational success.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent in training and experience.
- 7+ years of experience in network design, implementation, and maintenance.
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent certification is highly preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Familiarity with NIST 800-171 standards and best practices.
- Deep understanding of network protocols, security principles, and authentication mechanisms (e.g., RADIUS, TACACS+).
- Experience with scripting/automation tools to streamline network operations and maintenance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences effectively.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities for resolving complex networking challenges.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and reliability.
- Bilingual in French and English is an asset.
The successful candidate will be required to complete a criminal background check and obtain/maintain a Government of Canada security clearance and any applicable clearances with respect to the handling and transfer of controlled goods.
This position is eligible for consideration of a hybrid work arrangement with set onsite days.
