Job Summary
Essential:
• 5 years experience in Fibre / Optical Network Performance analysis
o Span loss analysis against End-of-Life metrics
Analysis of Fibre performance data from Fibre Monitoring systems & associated databases
Assessment of Span loss data capabilities from Active Assets (e.g. inbuilt OTDR features in DWDM)
Developing visualization tools & reports to assess Span Loss data against fibre performance SLAs (i.e. loss per km metrics)
Developing reporting alerts to highlight when Span loss link deviates from historical data points (e.g. identify if fibre path is in an off normal or patched state)
• Operation or Deployment of fibre monitoring systems technology or DWDM network with equivalent capability
o Supporting the solution development for multiple generations of fibre monitoring technology (i.e. Viavi Solutions RTU to ONMSi or similar from alternative vendor)
o Developing solutions to support expansion of fibre monitoring into new sites
• Platform Management/Engineering skills including:
o Develop lifecycle plans and enhancements for the infrastructure platforms to meet performance and operational requirements.
o Validate technology solutions and designs through testing within the Transport domain as well as with other Telstra technology domains.
o Identify and drive product unit cost reduction opportunities through simplification, rationalisation, and smart application of recent technology.
o Drive efficiency in development and operation of technologies through process improvements and automation opportunities.
Desirable:
• Familiarity with pluggable optics (SFPs) in a multi-vendor environment, including:
o Coding requirements for Optical Transceivers (SFPs) for OEM functional compatibility / compliance
o Assessment / testing of optical transceivers deployed in Transport & IP network elements.
• Basic scripting skills to support analysis tool development (e.g. Python, QLIK, GRAFANA, etc)
• Awareness of Telstra architecture and technology implementation process
• A working knowledge of Technology & Product Lifecycle from introduction to augmentation to exit stages and the associated business processes
• A working knowledge of project management/Agile methodologiesJob Description
As a Network Engineer, you draw on your breadth of knowledge and expertise in related areas of network engineering and actively apply agile and/or lean ways of working to deliver on the following responsibilities:
• Translating customer needs and requirements, into realisable and commercially viable products, services, or systems and/or networks infrastructure.
• Designing, testing, integrating and optimising maintenance of specific complex network technologies, platforms and/or systems.
• Contributing to ensuring that network components and systems interact with Telstra processes and systems to deliver market leading customer experiences. You do this by using your expertise and experience of specific domain components to address related incidents, problems and upgrades to optimise network performance.
• Contributing to assessing capability of vendor solutions and offerings to meet business requirements and assist in managing vendor performance and technology delivery.
• Developing depth / advanced levels of knowledge over a current domain by engaging in continuous learning through formal development, coaching and seeking feedback.
• Contributing to the development of technology guidelines and standards to be used by Chapter and/or business unit members in the design and deployment of network technologies.
• Using your sound interpersonal and influencing skills to authentically collaborate with mission or project team members and stakeholders to deliver defined work objectives.
