Job Responsibilities
Design, implement, maintain, and support enterprise communication networks across UHS and in collaboration with external partner organizations.
Lead the architecture, deployment, and administration of network infrastructure, with a primary focus on Cisco networking technologies, including routing, switching, wireless, and network management solutions.
Configure, maintain, and optimize next-generation firewall environments, with a strong preference for experience supporting Palo Alto Networks security platforms.
Monitor network performance, capacity, and availability to ensure reliable and secure operations. Troubleshoot complex network issues, resolve outages, implement upgrades, and recommend infrastructure enhancements to improve performance and scalability.
Establish, maintain, and enforce network standards, policies, procedures, and best practices by defining system architecture, directing installations, and ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
Strengthen the organization's cybersecurity posture by managing access controls, participating in security audits and assessments, implementing security recommendations, and supporting network security initiatives.
Install, configure, and support core and edge network switches, wireless systems, firewalls, VPN technologies, content filtering solutions, network security tools, VoIP systems, and video conferencing platforms.
Develop and maintain network diagrams, technical documentation, standards, operating procedures, and configuration records to support operational excellence and knowledge sharing.
Create training materials and provide technical guidance and mentoring to IT staff, including Help Desk, Desktop Support, Server Support, and other technical teams.
Serve as the network engineering subject matter expert on organizational projects and strategic initiatives. Develop project plans, coordinate activities, manage timelines, and ensure successful project delivery.
Collaborate with IT leadership to evaluate emerging technologies, develop infrastructure roadmaps, and support long-term technology planning.
Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to network team members, promoting best practices and fostering professional development.
Demonstrate the ability to function as a team lead and emerging leader, supporting departmental objectives, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, and contributing to succession planning efforts within the IT organization.
Position Qualifications
Minimum Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
3-5 years of experience within a Networking Environment
Cisco CCNA within 6 months of hire
Preferred:
Masters Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
6-10 years of experience in a Networking Environment
Extensive experience in Network Engineering supporting large-scale enterprise environments
Strong expertise with Cisco networking technologies, including routing, switching, wireless, and network infrastructure design
Experience administering and supporting Palo Alto firewalls and network security solutions
Working knowledge of VoIP technologies and telecommunications infrastructure preferred
Proven project management experience, including planning, coordination, execution, and stakeholder communication.
