As MISO’s Network Engineer I, you will play a critical role in designing, enhancing, and supporting a complex enterprise network environment with a strong focus on Cisco routing, Palo Alto firewalls, and secure architectural solutions. In this hands‑on, high‑impact position, you will work on technical troubleshooting efforts, advise analysts, and partner with vendors to drive forward‑looking network initiatives. What You'll Do as our Network Engineer I:
- Configure, support, and optimize Cisco routing, Palo Alto firewalls, F5 technologies, Cisco ISE, DUO MFA, and network security protocols.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in security posture, operational stability, and architectural standards.
- Engage with vendors to evaluate new technologies, gather quotes, and propose solution options.
- Lead troubleshooting during outages, serving as a technical escalation point and participating in bridge calls.
- Provide mentorship to analysts and advise on design approaches, best practices, and solution strategies.
- Support network monitoring, analysis, and reporting using tools such as Splunk, SolarWinds, and Tufin.
- Participate in automation and Infrastructure‑as‑Code initiatives, supporting AI‑driven or automated solutions where possible.
- Conduct architecture reviews, evaluate diagrams, and recommend improvements across the overall network environment.
- Assist with governance, compliance documentation, policy drafting, and technical writing.
- Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or 10+ years relevant work experience equivalency, required.
- Minimum of eight years’ experience working in complex communication environments.
- Deep expertise in Cisco routing and enterprise network communication principles.
- Strong knowledge of Palo Alto firewall rule sets, components, and security best practices.
- Experience with Cisco ISE, MFA technologies, and modern network security protocols.
- Proficiency with F5, private networking, MPLS/VPN, and wired infrastructure.
- Familiarity with SolarWinds, Splunk, and Tufin.
- Ability to design, build, and troubleshoot complex network architectures.
- Technical writing and documentation capabilities.
Preferred Skills and Experiences:
- CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, or PCNSA (CCNP strongly preferred).
- Experience with network automation, scripting, or Infrastructure‑as‑Code.
- Background supporting Cisco collaboration technologies.
- Python or REST‑based automation exposure.
Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.

The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $119,000 – 144,000 USD annually. Base salary range for this position is included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, and qualifications/experience.
