Job Description

Vector Fibre: Connecting Auckland's most critical networks.

Life at Vector Fibre means building and running the infrastructure that businesses, data centres, and wholesale partners can't afford to be without.

We're a business-only fibre network operator, backed by Vector Limited — New Zealand's largest energy infrastructure company. That backing gives us the scale and stability of a major NZX-listed organisation, while our team stays focused and specialised on one thing: always-on, mission-critical connectivity across Auckland.

As part of our team, you'll work on optical transport and DWDM systems carrying traffic for enterprise, data centre, and RSP customers who depend on our network daily. You'll help shape how we grow that network — evaluating new technologies, designing for resilience, and solving problems at a scale few fibre networks in New Zealand operate at.

And while we build Auckland's most connected network, we prioritise yours too. Enjoy a comprehensive salary and benefits package, hybrid working and flexibility with hours, and be part of a diverse, inclusive culture that values fresh thinking and career growth.

Culture that powers progress

Hear from our people on what they enjoy most about Vector, why they joined and why they stay.

The role

As Network Architect, OTN, you'll take ownership of the architecture, roadmap and growth of Vector Fibre's Optical Transport Network (OTN), which underpins high-capacity connectivity for data centres, critical infrastructure providers, cable landing stations and telecommunications networks. You'll lead the design of future network capabilities, plan capacity and expansion initiatives, and provide the technical direction that ensures our network remains resilient, scalable and ready for growth.

This is a rare opportunity to join Vector Fibre at an exciting point in its journey. Following a strategic review, the business is investing in growth, expanding its presence in the data centre market and building new network capabilities to support future demand. You'll have the opportunity to directly influence the architecture that enables that growth, own a critical network platform and help shape its future direction.

Working closely with engineering, sales and customer teams, you'll act as our subject matter expert for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and optical transport technologies. From developing network designs and guiding implementation projects through to supporting customer solution discussions and evaluating emerging technologies, you'll play a key role in both the technical and commercial success of the business.

Who are we looking for?

  • An experienced network architect or senior optical transport specialist with proven expertise designing, deploying or operating DWDM and OTN within a carrier, telecommunications, ISP or vendor environment
  • Deep technical knowledge of optical transport technologies, including DWDM line systems, ROADMs, coherent optics, high-capacity transport networks and network capacity planning
  • A technically credible subject matter expert who enjoys taking ownership, making architecture decisions and working collaboratively with engineering teams to deliver outcomes
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical solutions for customers, sales teams and non-technical audiences
  • Relevant industry experience and qualifications, along with a passion for innovation, continuous improvement and helping shape the future of a growing network platform.
