Job Summary
A Network and Systems Technician provides hands-on support for configuring and maintaining a variety of network-connected control systems, sensors, and embedded devices in a manufacturing environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Apply vendor and proprietary protocols for configuring devices across TCP/IP networks, ensuring reliable data transmission between field devices and servers.
- Configure and troubleshoot network servers, access control systems, and surveillance infrastructure (IP cameras, NVRs).
- Support secure communication between automation systems (PLCs, VFDs, and sensors) and enterprise networks.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure component and system reliability.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software-related system issues.
- Assist in the calibration, testing, and configuration of automation systems, sensors, and control devices.
- Participate in network upgrades, including documentation of hardware/software changes and addressing legacy device integration challenges.
- Develop and maintain accurate records of system maintenance, repairs, and modifications.
- Work with Program Managers and Operations stakeholders to improve system efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all systems comply with company safety standards and industry regulations.
- Ensure cybersecurity standards are upheld for all connected devices, including patching, access control, and data protection measures.
- Site visits for installation, troubleshooting, and support (less than 20%).
Position Requirements
- High school diploma and 10 years’ experience in related manufacturing or technician roles.
- Proficiency in configuring network devices via CLI, especially using platforms like Cisco IOS, Ubiquiti EdgeOS, or similar network operating systems
- Experience setting up and troubleshooting PC's, laptops, tablets, printers, workstations, servers, computer peripherals, file sharing and software applications
- Experience deploying and managing virtualized environments. Familiarity with Proxmox or similar hypervisor platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in performing configuration, installations, upgrades and backup/recovery
- Hands-on experience in the setup and maintenance of switches, routers, and firewalls, including VLAN configuration, static/dynamic routing, and access control rules
- Solid understanding of VPNs, SSH tunneling, and other secure communication protocols used for remote access and encrypted data transmission.
- Ability to understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, control systems, and preventive maintenance techniques.
- Proficiency with basic hand tools
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio.
- Test equipment knowledge/proficiency.
- Professional written and verbal communication, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person, on the telephone or virtually.
- Dexterity of hands, fingers, and wrist to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, or assemble/manufacture intricate items.
- Seeing to read a variety of materials.
- Sitting or standing for extended period of time.
- Physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds to shoulder height. Any items that weigh more than 50 pounds will require two or more people or a lifting device to move.
- Physical agility to lift, carry, push, or pull objects.
Pay/Salary Information
Pay scale for this position - $41.12 to $49.05 Hourly
