Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Solid understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)
- Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model
- Understanding of technical environments in order to create and document processes and procedures
- Demonstrated well-developed organizational, written communication, and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently to accomplish tasks without direct supervision
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively and productively with teams across organizational lines, including administrative, executive staff, and clinical systems users
Job Responsibilities
- Establishes networking environment by installing, configuring, and maintaining network equipment and systems in according with defined standards or best practices.
- Maximizes network performance and availability by monitoring resource utilization, trending, and capacity.
- Collaborates with network and domain architects on network optimization.
- Troubleshoots network problems and outages; schedules and implements patches, upgrades, hot fixes, and security configurations.
- Secures network system by enforcing policies, defining, and monitoring access.
- Serves as liaison with user departments and vendors to communicate, evaluate, and implement new network technologies and systems.
- Manages and maintains network documentation, equipment inventories, and MDF/IDF standards.
- Participates in daily and out-of-hours on-call support for network operating needs.
- Establishes networking environment by designing system configuration; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
- Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architect(s) and senior network engineer(s) on network optimization.
- Reports/monitors network operational status, performance availability, resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
- Configures and installs various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS, WLAN, etc.)
- Provides Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues.
- Mentors/trains junior level engineer(s).
