The Role

Indivisible is a nationwide grassroots movement dedicated to advancing progressive values, building an inclusive democracy, and empowering local Indivisible groups to effect change in their communities and beyond. At our core, we believe that the power of the people is greater than the people in power—and we’re committed to ensuring our stories are heard by the right audiences, in the right spaces, at the right times.

As the media landscape evolves, Indivisible recognizes the need to break into emerging platforms and expand our reach beyond traditional media. That’s where the National Director of Media and Influencer Relations comes in. This creative and strategic leader will be responsible for positioning Indivisible as a prominent voice beyond the MSNBC audience by cultivating relationships with podcasters, influencers, and digital-first journalists, all while maintaining alignment with our existing traditional press strategy.

This role will lead Indivisible’s press team, overseeing the National Press Secretary and Grassroots Press Manager. It will also work closely with teams across the organization to ensure cohesive and impactful media efforts that reflect our mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Strategic Vision and Leadership – 35%
  • Develop a forward-thinking media strategy that expands Indivisible’s reach into emerging media outlets and platforms, such as podcasts, TikTok, YouTube, Substack, and non-traditional news sources.
  • Identify and prioritize audiences who are underserved by traditional media coverage but are critical to advancing progressive values, such as young voters, multicultural communities, and politically disengaged populations.
  • Serve as a key thought leader in the organization, bringing insights on media trends and crafting strategies to adapt to the shifting landscape.

  • 2. Building Relationships in New Media – 25%
  • Cultivate relationships with influential podcasters, YouTube hosts, TikTok creators, and digital journalists to amplify Indivisible’s voice.
  • Partner with content creators and influencers to co-develop campaigns, share stories, and build connections with their audiences.
  • Establish Indivisible as a trusted source for political commentary, activism tips, and progressive stories in emerging media spaces.

  • 3. Cross-Departmental Collaboration – 20%
  • Partner with the digital mobilization team to ensure that press and influencer outreach aligns with social media strategies and online campaigns.
  • Work closely with the grassroots organizing team to elevate local leaders and stories, connecting them with new media opportunities.
  • Collaborate with traditional press staff to ensure cohesive messaging across legacy and emerging platforms.

  • 4. Content Development and Media Innovation – 10%
  • Oversee the creation of tailored media pitches, press kits, and story packages that are optimized for non-traditional outlets.
  • Experiment with new storytelling formats, such as short-form videos, live streams, and collaborative social campaigns.
  • Develop influencer engagement strategies that go beyond simple promotion, fostering long-term partnerships and authentic advocacy.

  • 5. Monitoring Media Trends and Metrics – 10%
  • Stay ahead of emerging trends, tools, and platforms, continuously refining Indivisible’s media strategy to remain relevant and effective.
  • Use analytics and media performance data to measure impact, refine strategies, and communicate successes to the leadership team.

  • At least 7 years of experience in media relations, public relations, and digital communications, with a strong focus on emerging media platforms.
  • Demonstrated success in building relationships with podcasters, influencers, and digital-first media outlets.
  • Proven ability to secure high-impact coverage and translate complex issues into compelling narratives.

  • Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Experience managing high-performing teams and fostering alignment across diverse functions.

What We Do

Our mission is to resist Trump’s agenda by empowering local activist groups to make their Members of Congress listen. Our work is premised on a simple idea: that Trump’s agenda doesn’t depend on Trump--but rather on whether individual Members of Congress resist. In short, we work to support the creative, local leaders driving the Indivisible Movement. Following the election of Donald Trump, a group of two dozen former congressional staffers and progressive advocates drafted a document called “Indivisible: A Practical Guide for Resisting the Trump Agenda.” What is the Indivisible Guide? It’s a toolkit on citizen power, a set of local, defensive advocacy strategies and tactics for resisting the Trump agenda. Thousands of local groups have now formed in nearly every congressional district in the country to put the guide into action.
