Role SummaryThe National Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for overseeing a team of six Business Development Managers, all dedicated exclusively to generating new business within the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector. This role is pivotal in driving the organisation’s growth strategy by identifying, targeting, and securing new clients across the national SME marketplace.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership: Provide strategic direction, mentoring, and day-to-day management for a team of six BDMs, ensuring targets are set, tracked, and achieved.
New Business Acquisition: Focus 100% on sourcing, developing, and closing new business opportunities, with no responsibility for account management or renewals.
Market Analysis: Conduct ongoing analysis of the SME market to identify trends, emerging opportunities, and potential threats.
Sales Strategy Implementation: Develop and refine sales strategies and campaigns specifically tailored to the SME sector, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
Performance Management: Monitor and report on individual and team performance, using KPIs to drive a high-performance culture.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to support business growth and ensure a seamless new business onboarding process.
Demonstrable success in leading high-performing business development teams, ideally within the SME marketplace.
Strong track record of new business acquisition and the ability to develop strategies that open doors to new clients.
Analytical mindset with the capability to interpret market data and translate insights into actionable plans.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
Results-driven, with a relentless focus on achieving and exceeding targets.
Success in this role will be measured by the volume and value of new business secured, the development and effectiveness of the BDM team, and the overall growth of the company’s SME client base.
