The MV Product Development Manager is a high-impact Engineering Site Leader responsible for driving product definition, engineering alignment, and execution excellence across Vertiv’s Medium-Voltage switchgear portfolio. Reporting to the Senior R&D Engineering Manager, this role leads Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers and Test teams to ensure clear product specifications, strong technical direction, and seamless collaboration with design teams.

This position is accountable for translating customer needs and field insights into robust product requirements, enabling design teams to build reliable, high-quality solutions. The Product Development Manager plays a critical role in delivering fully certified solutions to the market.

The role sets the standard for execution by prioritizing initiatives, aligning cross-functional stakeholders, and maintaining strong oversight of validation, testing, and release readiness. Additionally, this leader drives New Product Development (NPDI) effectiveness, accelerates time-to-market through better planning and coordination, and ensures engineering resources are focused on the highest-impact work.

Success in this role requires strong technical depth in Electrical/mechanical systems and design, decisive leadership, and the ability to influence product designs—bridging product definition and design execution to consistently deliver measurable business outcomes and improved customer experience. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, extensive systems engineering background, an understanding of Product Engineering and New Product Development process, and experience in developing and managing a high-performing team.

This position requires full-time onsite presence at the Anderson, SC location.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides technical leadership defining new product design specifications, resolving complex customer technical issues pertaining to Medium-Voltage Switchgear.
  • Provides technical leadership to internal Vertiv functions - marketing, sales, application engineering, customer technical support and service, and manufacturing.
  • Lead, mentor, and coach a team of Product engineers, Lead Engineers, Sustaining team and test technicians.
  • Brings extensive experience in electrical/mechanical systems as well as new technologies and ideas to the table to drive innovation and reliability.
  • Responsible for managing the team’s day-to-day responsibilities and reporting status. 
  • Assigns priorities to the team and assists them with escalating issues and solving problems.
  • Oversees the lab and Test engineers who support the product testing, DVT and Regression tests, reviews the tests and results to ensure defect-free product and firmware launches.
  • Reviews and tracks the engineering OpEx budget for their group.
  • Manages CapEx projects from initial quoting to commissioning and ability to track the spending and effectively utilize company funds.
  • Ownership of product engineering deliverables including quality of customer-facing documentation such as QIG, Technical Manuals etc.
  • Implement new processes to improve engineering performance and improves NPDI product launch Time-To-Market metrics.
  • Organizes and actively drives Design Reviews, DFx Reviews, Pilot Builds, Testing, PPAP activities.
  • Leads and mentors cross-functional teams to come up with permanent resolutions for the issues identified during these formal reviews. 
  • Thinks strategically, sees bigger picture to effectively improve New Product launch performance and field issues resolution which will positively impact Vertiv Single Phase UPS business positioning, growth, reputation and market share. 

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor's in Mechanical  or Electrical engineering with 7-10+ years experience and 2 years in Engineering Leadership: 
    • R&D, Product Engineering, Technical team management 
    • Product Design & Engineering: Full product lifecycle expertise.
    • Testing & Compliance:  DVT, Regulatory, safety, and certification
  • Subject matter expert in electrical/mechanical products & technology, provide technical information on current products pertaining to customer issues or new product specifications.
  • Experience in writing &/or approving technical publications, Functional Requirements, Technical Requirements documents. 
  • Experience in mentoring Product Engineers, Lead Engineers, Sustaining and Test teams to efficiently solve design issues and customer problems. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, handle multiple priorities, and ability to effectively manage team activities.
  • Ability to effectively lead during times of uncertainty and ambiguity by thinking strategically and at the same time providing tactical solutions for superior execution.
  • Excellent technical project management skills and ability to effectively communicate project status to senior leadership.
  • Engineering software and systems familiarity.  Oracle, Agile, Solidworks, Solidworks PDM, PD Cloud, etc. 
  • Excellent planning, organizing, and communication skills.  Ability to successfully communicate and articulate complex topics to a broad range of people in a global team environment.
