SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician is responsible for setup, installation, troubleshooting, repair and testing of complex mechanical/electrical equipment including automatic machines and process controls, motor control centers and related controls, computer control systems, some with human/machine interfaces, as well as basic plant electrical equipment; this includes preventive maintenance activities related to production and building equipment, machinery and components.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews and accurately reports personal activities on a daily, or more frequent, basis
  • Assists the Maintenance Lead Person and/or the Maintenance Manager in determining proper installation and/or repair procedures for mechanical, electrical and/or electronic equipment
  • Notifies the Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Lead Person if additional hand, power or electronic diagnostic tools are required
  • Participates in a preventive maintenance program as directed by Maintenance supervision
  • Assures that safe work practices and company policies are adhered to at all times
  • Assists Maintenance Lead Person and/or Maintenance Manager in establishing and maintaining optimum inventory levels of critical components
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Maintenance Manager
  • Capable of operating lift truck
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Capable of performing low-to-high voltage electrical work, laying out and wiring complex circuits with large numbers of connections, troubleshooting and correcting faulty logic and control circuits, as well as carrying out installations, repairs and tests on virtually all production and plant equipment
  • Capable of performing light-to-heavy mechanical work, general plumbing, general carpentry and repair.
  • Proficient in the use of basic hand tools, power tools, volt / ohm / amp meters, oscilloscopes, and other electrical diagnostic equipment as may be necessary
  • Capable of troubleshooting complex equipment
  • Familiar with manufacturing environment and equipment
  • Familiar with company philosophy, procedures, and practices
  • Possesses good mechanical/electrical/electronic aptitude
  • Mandatory participation in pay-for-skill program
  • Possesses a strong work ethic and is able to function effectively with minimal supervision
  • Basic PC literacy
  • Familiarity with industry safe work practices, including various OSHA and PSM-derived programs. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience
  • Additional education –or- work experience (one of three areas below or equivalent experience as determined by the maintenance manager required)
  • Associates degree in one of the following majors:
    • Electrical Technology
    • Electronics Technology
    • Mechanical Technology
  • Military - 2 years minimum service with training in one of the following fields:
    • Electrical Technology
    • Electronics Technology
    • Mechanical Technology
  • On the Job Training – 3 years minimum in one of the following areas:
    • Industrial maintenance – electrical
    • Industrial maintenance – electronics
    • Industrial maintenance – mechanical

Skills Required

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Associate degree in electrical, electronics, or mechanical technology; or equivalent qualifying experience
  • At least two years of military service with electrical, electronics, or mechanical training; or at least three years of industrial maintenance experience in electrical, electronics, or mechanical work
  • Ability to perform low- to high-voltage electrical work and troubleshoot complex control circuits
  • Ability to perform mechanical work, plumbing, carpentry, and equipment repairs
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, meters, oscilloscopes, and electrical diagnostic equipment
  • Manufacturing equipment and industrial maintenance experience
  • Basic PC literacy
  • Familiarity with OSHA and Process Safety Management safety programs
  • Ability to operate a lift truck
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to participate in a pay-for-skill program
