Operate computerized mud-logging units onshore and offshore, analyze cuttings and chromatography for lithology and hydrocarbon shows, monitor rig and downhole conditions for hazards, generate daily logs/reports, maintain sample archives and equipment calibrations, and communicate findings to clients and rig management.
Summary Generated by Built In
Responsible for operating computerized logging units in both the onshore and offshore environment in the safest manner possible. Generates daily written reports to client in an accurate and timely manner. Evaluates all formations penetrated and immediately reports any hydrocarbon shows. Monitors all aspects of rig operations and downhole conditions, with emphasis placed on early detection of potentially hazardous drilling situations.
Responsibilities1. Sample Analysis Analyze samples for composition (lithology) and oil content (show analysis). Note any formation changes, unusual lithologys and key marker beds and communicate to client. Note any sudden occurrence of metal shavings in samples and communicate to client drilling representative. Acquire chromatography data as required. Maintain samples in an archive for later shipment to the client. Wet unwashed samples can be stored in plastic bags and dried samples stored in paper sample bags. Ensure all bags are clearly and correctly marked with the depth of the sample. Ship archived samples as per client's instructions. 2. Data Management Analyze data acquired from all RIGWATCH sensors and edit as necessary. Based on the data available, determine the lithology presently being drilled, and evaluate the current drilling process to insure that drilling operations will proceed safely. Incorporate lithology, chromatography, and oil show data into database. Compose formation descriptions and annotate the logs with data, bit information, drilling parameters and any other such notes required by the client. Maintain a current archive back-up of the database for use in emergencies. Print all final log copies and reports at the end of the job. Prepare all client-requested data diskettes. 3. Communications Submit morning reports and daily logs to the client as per logging instructions, reporting any unusual formation changes or possible drilling problems and the current status of the job. Report to the drilling manager and tool pusher any drilling issues that may negatively affect the continued safe operations of the rig. Provide any specialized forms or services that the on-site drilling representative may request. Submit daily reporting form to division office with accurate accounting and manpower information. Submit weekly and period summaries for accounting and payroll purposes. 4. Equipment Maintenance Perform routine preventive maintenance on all company-owned equipment on job site. Routinely check and maintain calibrations on all sensors and gas equipment. Report any non-repairable failure to the appropriate technician to expedite repair or replacement of defective equipment. Track supply inventory and request any needed supplies from service technician. Maintain cleanliness of mudlogging unit at all times.
