Job Description

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a highly trained, field-based scientific expert who engages healthcare professionals (HCPs) to exchange clinical, scientific, and research knowledge. Operating within regulatory and corporate guidelines, the MSL builds and maintains scientific relationships and collaborations with the medical and scientific community at the local, regional, and national levels, including HCPs, professional societies, and healthcare organizations.

Travel & Territory

  • Assigned Territory: Northern California.
  • This role provides educational, scientific, and research support for Sobi's rare disease portfolio within the hematology franchise, supporting the Northern California territory.
  • Frequent travel by ground and/or air is required, with an estimated 60% or more of time away from the remote home office to support coverage of the Northern California territory and product needs.

Essential Responsibilities / Scope of the Job

Including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Serve as the primary field-based point of contact for Sobi Medical Affairs within the Northern California territory.
  • Engage appropriately with key thought leaders and healthcare professionals to exchange scientific information accurately, fairly, and in a balanced manner.
  • Report field intelligence to Sobi, including competitive insights, perspectives on compounds, disease states, and the treatment landscape.
  • Support Sobi's clinical development and operations teams through site recommendations, site initiation visits, communication facilitation, and accrual support activities.
  • Participate in, and at times lead, advisory board meetings at the local, regional, and national levels.
  • Deliver internal and external training on preclinical science, clinical data, and outcomes.
  • Represent Sobi at medical conferences and provide session summaries.
  • Serve as a cross-functional scientific resource across the organization, consistent with company guidelines.
  • Maintain advanced, current knowledge of relevant studies, compounds, and disease states to support collegial, scientific discussions with leading hematology/oncology thought leaders.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of excellence in managing the assigned Northern California territory while contributing to the success of colleagues and the broader MSL organization.

Qualifications

Required

  • Accredited doctorate degree in a life-science or basic-science discipline (Pharm.D., D.Sc., D.N.P., Ph.D., or M.D./D.O.). Candidates with an advanced health-related degree combined with extensive industry or clinical experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 1 year of MSL experience in hematology/oncology and rare disease.
  • Existing familiarity with the Northern California medical/scientific community and key institutions.
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate scientific information, and to respond to inquiries and address the needs of key stakeholders.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to shape and articulate a clear strategy and narrative.
  • Demonstrated success managing internal and external stakeholders, and leading or influencing cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Proven track record of strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain relationships throughout the medical community.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive, constructive relationships with cross-functional internal team members.
  • High level of personal integrity, emotional intelligence, and flexibility.
  • Understanding of the highly regulated biopharmaceutical industry environment, including basic knowledge of the legal and regulatory landscape.
  • Passion for science and teaching.

The base salary for an MSL/Sr is $180,000 – $215,000 annually. Each individual offer will be determined based on several factors, including your experience, qualifications, and location. Additionally, this role is eligible for both short-term and long-term bonuses, as outlined in the plan details.
