Job Description

MRB Engineer – Composite Manufacturing & Production Support

Location: Kent, WA, USA

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced MRB (Material Review Board) Engineer to support our customer who is in composite manufacturing operations. The role will support production teams in the disposition of non-conformances, development of MRB decisions, root cause and corrective action (RCCA) investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives across aerospace composite and honeycomb manufacturing operations.

The ideal candidate will have strong shop floor experience working directly with production, quality, manufacturing engineering, and operations teams in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment. This individual will provide engineering disposition support, author MRB tags, perform failure investigations, identify systemic issues, and generate actionable insights to improve quality, producibility, and manufacturing performance.

Industry Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, production engineering, MRB, liaison engineering, quality engineering, or manufacturing engineering.
  • Hands-on experience supporting aerospace production environments involving composites, honeycomb structures, bonded assemblies, machined parts, sheet metal components, or advanced composite materials.
  • Strong shop floor experience working directly with operators, inspectors, quality engineers, manufacturing engineers, and production leadership.
  • Experience reviewing and dispositioning production non-conformances within aerospace manufacturing environments.
  • Experience conducting Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), failure investigations, and production problem resolution.
  • Familiarity with commercial and defense aerospace manufacturing standards, quality requirements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives focused on defect reduction, process capability improvement, and manufacturing excellence.
  • Prior OEM, Tier-1 supplier, aerospace structures, composites, or advanced manufacturing experience preferred.
  • MRB delegation or prior experience supporting OEM MRB processes (e.g., Boeing, Airbus, Spirit, Collins, etc.) is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review, analyze, and disposition manufacturing non-conformances through the Material Review Board (MRB) process.
  • Prepare, document, and release MRB tags and engineering dispositions in accordance with customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements.
  • Provide engineering support to production teams for composite, honeycomb, bonded, machined, and assembled aerospace products.
  • Perform technical evaluations of discrepant hardware and determine appropriate repair, rework, use-as-is, or scrap dispositions.
  • Investigate recurring quality issues and non-conformances to identify root causes and systemic process gaps.
  • Lead and support RCCA activities using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 5-Why, Fishbone, Pareto, and related analytical techniques.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, Production, and Supplier Quality teams to implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Analyze production data and quality trends to generate insights and recommendations for defect reduction and process improvement.
  • Support containment activities, concession reviews, and customer-driven quality investigations.
  • Participate in shop floor troubleshooting and provide rapid engineering support to minimize production disruptions.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, manufacturing plans, and process documentation to support MRB decision-making.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on producibility, quality performance, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Participate in cross-functional review boards and communicate technical recommendations to stakeholders and management.

Technical Skills & Core Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of aerospace MRB processes, non-conformance dispositioning, and engineering release practices.
  • Experience writing and approving MRB tags, discrepancy reports, concession requests, and engineering dispositions.
  • Strong RCCA and problem-solving skills with experience applying structured root cause methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of aerospace manufacturing processes including composite layup, curing, bonding, honeycomb fabrication, machining, trimming, assembly, and inspection.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, material specifications, process specifications, and manufacturing plans.
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality systems, AS9100 requirements, and production quality controls.
  • Experience using quality and engineering systems for defect tracking, investigation, and corrective action management.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, develop insights, and recommend sustainable process improvements.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work directly with shop floor personnel, engineering teams, quality organizations, and leadership.
  • Experience participating in cross-functional investigations and driving closure of corrective actions.
