Position Summary

The Dallas College Facilities Management Department supports the facility needs for Dallas College while providing responsible stewardship and efficient operation of the College's physical assets. The Facilities Management Department is responsible for approximately 5,000,000 sq. ft. of physical space and over 1400 acres of land, located across multiple locations in Dallas County. The position of Shipping and Receiving Courier supports this effort by ensuring shipping, receiving, and mail functions are processed at a high level across all Dallas College locations. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and ability to perform general automobile preventive maintenance.

  • Able to transport a variety of items to and from various locations and vendors using box trucks, pickups, and trailers while ensuring proper care during transport.

  • Ability to record and/or log equipment operational status. 

  • Ability to utilize hand and power tools to assemble/disassemble furniture including modular furniture systems.

  • Ability to utilize moving equipment such as carts, dollies, and straps to move large items without damaging them or causing personal injury.

  • Ability to utilize a computerized maintenance management system to account for completion of daily work orders. 

  • Ability to operate a vehicle and/or a forklift to pick-up and deliver furniture, supplies, parts, and mail. Deliveries and pickups will occur at multiple college locations throughout Dallas County. 

  • Answer questions regarding transfers and delivery transactions by telephone and/or in person.  

  • Able to prepare and maintain accurate transportation logs, vehicle fuel consumption logs, and other data as required.

  • Ability to work well with others. Must be able to correspond with representatives to rectify problems, such as damage and shortages.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures that affect clients and/or employees, applying them fairly and consistently; ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations; and applies best practices that are in direct support of the overall vision, mission, and goals of the college.  

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must have the ability to maintain the security and integrity of the critical infrastructure of Dallas College.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the highest level of customer service across all Dallas College locations.

  • Ensure College mail and shipping orders are processed in an efficient manner across all Dallas College locations.

  • Ensure distribution of packages mail and move requests in a timely manner. 

  • Make deliveries and pickups from various Dallas College locations in a safe and efficient manner. 

  • Work with other Facilities Management teammates to ensure the highest level of customer service and assist other Facilities Management teams as required.

  • Must complete required professional development training hours per academic year. 

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending over, stooping, twisting, talking, hearing, climbing ladders, using stairs, reaching overhead, crouching, kneeling, or crawling. Pushing or pulling 10-50 lbs., lifting 10-80 lbs., carrying 10-50 lbs., repetitive use of arms and legs, driving, balancing, manual dexterity-fine manipulation or grasping. May require working in adverse weather conditions.   

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years related experience and proficient computer skills. 

  • Valid Texas driver’s license.

  • Bilingual preferred.
