Western Colorado University invites applications for the full-time position of Mountain Sports Coordinator (MSC). The Mountain Sports program exists to augment the Western experience for over 100 athletes participating in the seven teams. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation – Mountain Sports (ADCR –MS) and works closely with the Mountain Sports coaches to support the development of Mountain Sports athletes. https://western.edu/athletics/mountain-sports/
Responsibilities:
Operations, logistics, and other administrative support. The MSC will assist coaches with coordination of team travel, including, but not limited to coordinating transportation, booking accommodations, creating spend authorizations and expense reports, and purchasing. The MSC will schedule vehicles for team practices and travel. The MSC will be responsible for managing Mountain Sports registration.
Recruiting. The MSC will communicate with prospective students and work with Admissions to manage a prospective student database. This position will have the MSC travel to a few events per semester to recruit prospective student-athletes such as junior competitions in mountain sports. They will work with Marketing and Admissions to create and disperse regular prospective student communications. The MSC will often exercise analytical skills when reviewing and interpreting program data to determine recruitment strategies and best practices.
Fundraising and Alumni communication. The MSC will create alumni communications in conjunction with the ADCR-MS to be sent out on a scheduled basis by the ADCR. They will also assist with planning fundraising campaigns and create donor correspondence in collaboration with the ADCR-MS.
Media & marketing. The MSC will oversee Mountain Sports social media accounts and create content plans with coaches and student social media coordinators. The MSC will also collaborate with the ADCR-MS & Marketing to determine and execute other marketing strategies and communications.
Oversight of student staff. The MSC is responsible for overseeing student work-study staff including hiring, scheduling, training, work review and evaluation, and disciplinary and corrective actions. This includes student support for operations and logistics, social media, and other projects.
Additional responsibilities:
Department of Campus Recreation and Division of Student Success meetings and related events and tasks.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree. CPR & First Aid certification. Clean driving record and valid drivers license. Knowledge of, or ability in, competitive alpine skiing, nordic skiing, ski mountaineering, freeride skiing and snowboarding, rock climbing, trail running, or mountain biking. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks an projects effectively. Systems and strategic thinker, self-starter, resourceful, with an ability to multi-task, conduct market analysis, and develop marketing strategies and materials. Data-driven decision making. Relationship builder.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience driving and parking trailers. Experience in fund-raising and securing business sponsorships, marketing and advertising, and recruiting. Experience managing social media accounts.
Compensation: This is a full-time, year-round position with a salary range of $45,000 - $48,000; FLSA exempts.
