The Role

Hours:This is a full time position at 35 hours per week, working shift patterns across Monday to Saturday on a rota basis.
We offer hybrid working however, you must be able to travel to our Head Office in Skipton multiple times a week, with flexibility and more presence needed during initial 3 week training period.

Salary:£26,000 Per Annum

We’re looking for multiple Direct Lending Advisers who are passionate about delivering exceptional customer service and making a real difference. In this role, you’ll guide our members through the first stage of their mortgage journey – helping turn homeownership into a reality. You’ll carry out affordability checks and provide Decisions in Principle, ensuring a smooth and supportive experience from the start.

At Homes Advice, a Direct Lending Adviser plays a crucial role as the first point of contact, assisting customers in achieving homeownership and supporting existing customers with their additional borrowing needs.

Homes Advice provides customers with the opportunity to apply for a mortgage directly through Skipton Building Society. The teams consist of Direct Lending Advisers, Mortgage Relationship Advisers, and Qualified Mortgage Advisers. Together, they work in a collaborative and high-performing environment, closely partnering with key stakeholders to ensure the best possible customer journey.

What Will You Be Doing?

You will be answering a variety of customer inquiries related to their mortgage application, with your main focus being on guiding them through the Decision in Principle (DIP) process.

This includes:

  • Using curious questioning to understand what the customer is hoping to achieve and cross referencing our lending policy to ensure the mortgage application is viable

  • Verifying income and expenditure, not only checking basic affordability but also considering any unique circumstances that could impact the lending decision

  • Completing credit searches and informing customers of how much they could borrow

  • Where appropriate advocating for them with underwriters, taking a balanced and informed view on cases, and flexing policies where possible, whilst providing sound rationale and necessary approvals

  • Adopting a ‘customer first’ mindset whilst incorporating commercial thinking ad maximising every opportunity for both the customer and the Society

  • Ensuring honest and timely outcomes are given when a case cannot be proceeded

  • After successful Decision in Principles, taking ownership of the customer, supporting them through the next stage in their journey in speaking with a qualified Mortgage Adviser

What Do We Need From You?

  • Customer centric mindset – we’re looking for people with a passion for delivering an excellent customer journey and outcome

  • Communication – able to communicate clearly and comprehensively, making complex information easy to understand, and using curious questioning to explore customer needs

  • Commercial awareness – strong business acumen to identify and maximise business opportunities

  • Mortgage experience – experience of being involved in a customer’s mortgage journey is essential
