About the role: 


This is a hybrid position with the requirement of 3 full days in our San Francisco, CA office. 


We are seeking a highly skilled and analytical Mortgage Finance and Capital Market Strategist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping our mortgage origination strategy through expertise in financial modeling, risk assessment, and market trends. Working closely with departments such as sales, underwriting, and operations, you will drive optimization in lending processes and help maximize profitability.


Responsibilities: 

Financial Modeling and Analysis:

  • Develop and maintain advanced financial models to assess the impact of market factors, interest rate changes, and regulatory shifts on our mortgage portfolio.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of historical data to identify trends and inform data-driven decisions.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports and presentations for senior management and investors.
  • Support decision-making by providing insights through scenario analysis and predictive modeling.

Capital Market Strategy and Risk Management:

  • Manage securitization processes, working closely with banks and financial institutions.
  • Monitor capital markets to identify opportunities for mortgage-backed securities (MBS) issuance or other financing structures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with capital market participants, including investors, underwriters, and rating agencies.
  • Assess and mitigate credit, interest rate, and operational risks tied to mortgage origination activities.
  • Monitor market trends and regulatory shifts to maintain compliance and minimize potential losses.
  • Design and implement risk management strategies that protect the company’s financial health.

Strategic Planning:

  • Arrange and negotiate financing for warehouse lines to support the company’s lending operations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external banking partners to ensure financing aligns with business goals.
  • Evaluate and optimize warehouse line structures to improve capital efficiency.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to develop and execute strategies that align with overall business objectives.
  • Identify growth opportunities and areas for innovation within the mortgage market.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to remain at the forefront of industry trends.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay updated on regulatory changes, ensuring mortgage origination practices comply with all relevant laws.
  • Work with legal and compliance teams to address regulatory challenges and reduce compliance risks.


About you: 

  • 4+ years of experience in Financial Modeling, Capital Market Strategy, Mortgage-Backed Securities, and/or related roles.
  • Advanced degree in finance, economics, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with financial modeling and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python).
  • In-depth knowledge of the mortgage industry, including underwriting, pricing, and risk management.
  • Experience managing securitizations and working with banks or financial institutions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
