Summary
We are looking for a highly skilled Moodle API Integration Expert who specializes in designing, developing, and extending APIs to power mobile applications and external platforms built on top of Moodle. The ideal candidate has deep experience integrating Moodle with multiple systems and building scalable, secure API layers beyond standard Moodle usage.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain custom Moodle APIs to support mobile apps and external LMS platformsRole
Extend and customize Moodle Web Services (REST/SOAP) for high-performance integrations
Build middleware or service layers to expose Moodle data securely and efficiently
Integrate Moodle with third-party systems such as mobile apps, CRM, ERP, payment gateways, analytics, and identity provider
Customize Moodle core and plugins with an API-first approach
Optimize API performance, scalability, authentication, and authorization
Implement secure data exchange using tokens, OAuth, and role-based access
Troubleshoot complex integration and data-sync issues across systems
Collaborate closely with App Developers, Product Managers, QA, and DevOps teams
Required Skills & Experience
4+ years of hands-on Moodle development experience, with a strong focus on integrations
Proven experience in creating and extending Moodle APIs for mobile apps or external platforms
Strong expertise in PHP and Moodle Web Services (REST/SOAP)
Solid database knowledge: MySQL / PostgreSQL, including performance optimization
Experience working with custom authentication flows and API security
Strong understanding of LMS standards: SCORM, xAPI, LTI
Experience integrating Moodle with mobile applications (Android/iOS/Flutter/React Native)
Familiarity with Git-based workflows and deployment pipelines
Nice to Have
Experience building custom LMS layers on top of Moodle
Exposure to headless or decoupled Moodle architectures
Cloud-hosted Moodle experience (AWS/Azure/GCP)
Experience with caching, queuing, or background jobs for high-load APIs
