The Assistant Shift Supervisor provides support to the shift supervisor, ensures the team meets shift production goals, back up team leader.
Responsibilities
- Work with all team members in each area in day-to-day operations.
- Fill in areas when personnel are absent if staffing is not available.
- Train new hires when needed.
- Back up team leader on all fronts of Pellet Mill/ Hammermill operation.
- Follow up on daily shift testing to make sure within spec and if not communicate to the team leader.
- Should own the 5s procedure with all that applies.
- Must be able to multitask by balancing multiple items throughout the process.
- Perform/coordinate housekeeping daily/weekly for shift swaps to maintain to required standard, also walk with Safety manager during housekeeping audit monthly.
- Escalate issues promptly for proper resolution
Qualifications
- Must demonstrate a mechanical aptitude
- Ability to develop and maintain accurate records
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal job descriptions
- Proficient in mathematics and measurements

- Experience in a pellet manufacturing environment preferred

- High School degree or equivalent
Working conditions
- Must be available to work any shift/any day required; overtime is frequent
- Must be able to work in environments that reach temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.
- Able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment.
- Able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment.
Physical requirements
- Climb ladders and work off elevated surfaces on an occasional basis up to 100 ft
- Must be able to push, pull and lift items up to 50 lbs
- Able to frequently walk or stand in addition to the capability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift items above shoulders on an occasional basis
- Must use required/provided PPE (i.e. safety glasses, hard hat, steel toe boots & hearing protection)
