Job Description:
The TRIO SSS Director is responsible for the administration and implementation of the TRIO SSS grant program which serves approximately 216 eligible currently enrolled Lake Superior College (LSC) students. This position is the Supervisor to the TRIO SSS Advisors and manages the TRIO SSS staff in their daily duties along with meeting required TRIO SSS grant objectives as defined by the grant. This position is responsible for keeping the TRIO SSS program in compliance with Higher Education Opportunities Act (HEOA); TRIO SSS Regulations; EDGAR, OMB Super Circular; TRIO SSS Grant; and Annual Performance Review (APR) Regulations along with LSC, MN State and State policies/regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in Student Support Services (SSS) program
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience providing direct services to clients, preferably in a community college or University; community/social service; or TRIO program setting
- Experience with personal, career, and /or academic counseling
- Experience working with disadvantaged and culturally and racially diverse populations. Knowledge about current research regarding student development (both academic and non-cognitive), retention, and effective intervention strategies for at-risk populations. Strong working knowledge of issues related to low-income students, first generation students, and students with disabilities.
- Experience managing budgets.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds, and commitment to diversity and inclusion initiatives.
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Personnel Administration or related academic discipline
- Experience with and a commitment to working with diverse populations.
- Professional or personal experience overcoming barriers similar to the target population, or TRIO program alumni.
- Knowledge about effective advising models, including intrusive advising and appreciative advising.
- Documented professional experience directing or managing the same or similar program.
- Professional experience with state and federal regulations pertaining to grant compliance.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to grant compliance.
- Knowledge of current computer technologies such as web-based tools, word processing, spreadsheets and database management.
- Experience with Student Access software
- Experience with evaluation of direct service programs.
