Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for you to join our team as an Milling Machine Machinist 2, based out of Rolling Meadows, IL.
The specialist milling machinist is responsible for preparing and operating plain or universal, horizontal, and vertical milling machines to produce precision components. Core duties include:
- Setting up machines and selecting, mounting, and aligning specialized attachments or custom tooling.
- Planning the machining sequence, determining the number of passes, and choosing the optimal set‑up method.
- Computing and adjusting cutting speeds, feed rates, and depth of cut to meet exact tolerances.
- Executing advanced milling operations such as compound‑angle cuts, contouring, boring angular holes, helical and spiral milling, serrating, and cutting gears, splines, honing, and keyways.
- Interpreting blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; using hand tools and precision measuring instruments; performing standard shop calculations; and marking out stock material for machining.
- Monitoring and verifying product quality using statistical process control or other quality‑control procedures.
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or experience in machine milling setup/operation
- Ability to read blueprints/sketches or other engineering specifications
- Ability to use precision hand tools and measuring instruments
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret clearance
- US Citizen
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of CNC programming software such as SurfCam or MasterCam
- Willingness to learn CNC programming
- Sheet Metal forming and/or welding experience

Primary Level Salary Range: $58,300.00 - $97,100.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
