Job Summary
The Mill/Turn Setup Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing mill/turn CNC machines to produce precision components that meet quality, safety, and productivity standards. This role requires strong technical skills, blueprint interpretation, and the ability to independently complete machine setups and first-piece approvals.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate CNC mill/turn machines, including loading programs, tooling, and fixtures
- Perform complete machine setups, including tool offsets, work offsets, and probing as required
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, routings, and work instructions
- Conduct first-piece inspections and make necessary adjustments to ensure parts meet specifications
- Monitor machine operation and make in-process adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency
- Perform basic CNC program edits at the machine (feeds, speeds, tool paths as required)
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, bore gages, height gages, etc.)
- Troubleshoot machining issues related to tooling, materials, and processes
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company and OSHA standards
- Document production data, inspections, and setup changes as required
- Work collaboratively with engineering, quality, and supervision to improve processes and reduce scrap
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or apprenticeship preferred
- 3+ years of CNC machining experience, with direct mill/turn setup experience required
- Strong understanding of CNC machining principles, tooling, and materials
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and GD&T
- Experience with multi-axis CNC machines preferred
- Ability to use standard inspection and measuring equipment accurately
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience with live tooling, sub-spindles, and complex multi-axis machining
- Familiarity with common CNC controls (Fanuc, Mazak, Okuma, Siemens, or similar)
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience
- Experience machining tight-tolerance, high-precision components
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for precision work
- Manufacturing shop environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and cutting fluids
- PPE required as designated
Pay Range: $20-$30/hour
Skills Required

- 3+ years of CNC machining experience with mill/turn setup
