POSITION OVERVIEW 

The North Mill Manager will lead the concentrator team to create a safe, motivated and productive environment which stimulates continuous improvement. The highest standards must be maintained in areas of safety, environmental, plant productivity and efficiency. A successful candidate must have vision for employee development and plant improvements. The North Mill Manager will ensure that the plant adheres to all Company Policies as well as Federal, State and Local Regulations. The candidate must develop relationships with unions and work under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. 

The concentrator consists of a primary gyratory crusher, secondary and tertiary crushing, numerous rod and ball mills, mechanical and column flotation circuit, disc filters, thickeners and tailings storage facility. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  • Coordinates milling production and maintenance priorities in conjunction with the Maintenance Manager.  
  • Work to enhance the existing Total Safety Culture Program and Environmental guidelines to insure employee safety and health. 
  • Manages budgeting and cost control for the North Mill. 
  • Monitors plant performance, troubleshoots deficiencies or failures and makes recommendations for improvement. 
  • Hires and develops staff through coaching, training and performance reviews. 
  • Works closely with the mine to strategize how to improve overall production and recovery. 
  • Manage and coordinate the internal and external training to meet the needs associated with the mine and maintenance teams.  
  • Foster a cohesive working relationship (a partnership) with the local unions and participate in committees as needed. 
  • Manage the Collective Bargaining Agreement within its guidelines. Hear and respond to disciplinary hearings.  
  • Must be able to manage personnel problems through the set Company Policies and provisions within the Collective Bargaining Agreement.  
  • May serve as Project Manager or Technical Expert on mill modification projects. 
  • Controls the preparation and accuracy of North Mill production reports. 
  • Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles. 

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES  

  • Provide support to management in forecasting capital and expense annual budgets. 
  • Supervise activities of North Mill Department staff. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Manager. 
Preferred Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Project management skills. 
  • Computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Knowledge of milling and mining processes. 
  • Excellent health, safety and environmental awareness and compliance with MSHA policies. 
  • Strong computer skills with background in SAP and Rockwell Automation is a plus. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to solve problems through innovation and evaluate or develop new technologies. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 

 

WORK CONDITIONS 

  • Working conditions include heavy industrial environments; this may have conditions that include extreme temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture; walking on slippery and/or rough uneven surfaces, in confined spaces; at heights; and involves climbing ladders and stairs. 
  • Will have exposure to noise, vibrations, dust, chemicals, and will often work alone with minimum supervision. 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Mineral Processing is preferred but will consider all mill management experience. 
  • Must have minimum of 10 years concentrator experience with base metal flotation expertise.  

 

ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY 

  • The job requires training or instruction in the area of environmental Awareness. 
  • This job requires training or instruction in the area of Safety & Health awareness including completion of the appropriate MSHA training.
