This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit's Commercial Business Units ("Spirit Commercial"). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing's three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial's core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.
Position Responsibilities:
- Apply interdisciplinary knowledge and Systems Engineering processes and methods to plan, design, develop, integrate, and verify products that meet Customer needs within project constraints.
- Develop, analyze, and manage system and structural requirements.
- Develop and evaluate alternative concepts, architectures, and designs to select optimal, balanced solutions reflecting life-cycle considerations.
- Analyze system functionality and effectiveness with respect to any of the following: performance, cost, producibility, reliability, maintainability, testability, or affordability
- Analyze structure operational and life-cycle characteristics to support project decision-making and ensure product compliance with technical requirements and project constraints.
- Apply technical analyses to identify performance trends and root cause to propose corrective action.
- Ability to develop and document allocations, predictions, assessments, and analyses that compare the product design capabilities and usage experience to contract requirements.
- Identify, plan, define and manage product interfaces.
- Plan, conduct and monitor integration and verification activities.
- Plan, execute and manage project-specific technical activities implementing Systems Engineering methodology, coordinating multi-disciplined engineering efforts, and supporting project Risk Management, and Configuration and Data Management.
- Improve enterprise (company) Systems Engineering capability through development, assessment and deployment of company standards, processes, and tools.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor's Degree in Systems, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or other related course of study from an ABET accredited program
- 5+ years of experience in an engineering classification
- Ability to prioritize requests from multiple sources and support requirements
- Experience in requirements management and verification of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements including interface management (system to system, system to structure and structure to structure)
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail
- Self-motivated; taking ownership of projects and issues, including follow through to closure and resolution
- Great attitude and willingness to learn
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Experience with industry standard Systems Engineering principles and tools (e.g., TeamCenter, Enovia, DOORS, etc.)
- Reliability and Maintainability experience
- System Safety experience
- Experience with 3D modeling software such as CATIA V5/V6/3/DX or NX
- Aerospace manufacturing experience, especially with Nacelles, is a plus
