Position Summary: Participates with the department Supervisor and Lab Director for overall department oversight. Maintain specific Department in efficient and effective operation. Reports to Microbiology Supervisor
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves as a staff resource in absence of supervisor
- Communicate with incoming/outgoing shift designee to assess department status including daily department safety huddle as assigned
- In conjunction with the Microbiology Supervisor, identifies and implements performance improvement initiatives within Microbiology
- Assist in training of staff and evaluating of students to ensure completion of training documents
- Assist in creating and recording annual and new hire competencies
- Participate in writing/reviewing department policies and procedures in accordance with CAP and CLSI guidelines, ensuring that employees are informed and understand changes
- Assist with assigning CAP surveys and gathering evidence of compliance for CAP checklists
- Assist with creating Molecular TAT and Positivity rate reports
- Review exception and correction reports as assigned by leadership
- Assist in review of maintenance, temperature, and QC logs and help to address deviations and omissions
- Make sure that new lots of reagent and QC are up to-date. 30-day QC and wipe tests are monthly performed
- Assist in taking inventory to maintain par levels of QC and reagent inventory, may help place orders as appropriate
- Assist in daily review and troubleshooting of QC outliers and trends and notify supervisor / manager
- Participate in validation and training for new lab equipment
- Tasks will be completed as part of Routine Scheduled Hours
- Administrative time will be scheduled for special projects only
- Other duties as assigned to maintain department
Required Qualifications:
Education and Training:
- Bachelor’s Degree plus MT/MLS (ASCP)
- Strong Microbiology experience required (=>2yrs experience preferred)
- Demonstrates leadership skills
