Labcorp is seeking a Microbiologist to join our supportive and collaborative Safety Pharmacology team at Alconbury, Cambridgeshire. This role is predominantly laboratory-based and would suit a graduate or someone with microbiology or cell biology experience looking to take the next step in their scientific career.

Work Schedule: 37,5h/week: Monday – Friday, 8:30-5

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support Study Directors in conducting Microbiology, Virology and In Vitro Safety Assessment studies in accordance with study protocols, regulatory guidelines and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  • Assist with studies requiring microbiological organism counts in organs.
  • Perform core laboratory activities including reagent preparation, maintenance of bacterial and fungal strains, cell stock maintenance, dose formulation, equipment monitoring and calibration, record keeping and departmental administration.
  • Accurately collect and record data, including agar plate counts, identification of microbial pathogens, microscope counting techniques and 96-well plate scoring/reading.
  • Maintain stock levels of consumables and reagents and place orders as required.
  • Dispose of expired media and chemicals in accordance with procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness of laboratory and preparation areas, including glassware management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BSc degree in Microbiology or a related Cell Biology discipline. Relevant experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications.

Additional Job Standards:

  • Knowledge and/or experience in Microbiology, In Vitro Cell Culture or Cell Biology.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well organised with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently following training.
  • Knowledge and/or experience working within a GLP environment would be advantageous.

Skills Required

  • BSc degree in Microbiology or related Cell Biology discipline (or equivalent relevant experience)
