Metallurgist Principal Technology – Strategic Metallurgy  

 

Primary Responsibilities for the Metallurgist Principal Technology – Strategic Metallurgy:  

  • Provides a diversified range of technical services to our internal and external customers supporting the attainment of Company and division goals. 

  • Responsible for equipment qualification projects and working within cross-functional teams on customer approvals. 

  • Responsible for making proper disposition of referred, non-conforming and off-standard materials, including but not limited to RMR and customer claims. 

  • Recognizes material and process deficiencies, develops and implements innovative solutions. 

  • Provides leadership to less experienced staff. 

  • Manages multidisciplinary technical teams to address and solve complex problems and recognize/implement business trends for alloy and process development. 

  • Leads the application of SPC, six-sigma and/or BPI tools to detect and eliminate project and/or manufacturing process inefficiencies. 

  • Recognizes, communicates, measures and mitigates technical risk 

  • Ensures a safe workplace 

  • Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned.  

 

Requirements 

  • Education and/or Training: Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, Materials Science or related field required. 

  • Relevant Work Experience: 8 or more years relevant experience required. 

  • Technical: Advanced knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices.  Advanced knowledge of testing and production equipment. 

  • Project Management: Effectively leads project teams or sub-teams (for organization-wide projects) to achieve milestones and objectives. 

  • Business/Functional Expertise: Anticipates internal/external business and regulatory issues; recommends process/product improvements. Has developed depth and/or breadth of expertise in own function and broad knowledge of other functions. 

 

Additional Requirements: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the newest and latest technologies available.    

  • Functional knowledge of statistics, six sigma and/or BPI practices.    

  • Problem Solving: Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. 

  • Customer Focus: Anticipates customer needs; assesses requirements and identifies new solutions. 

  • Decision Making: Leads others to resolve complex problems in non-standard situations and develop creative solutions. 

  • Ability to effectively manage broad and/or complex projects; reliably delivers results on schedule; anticipates and mitigates risks.
