Summary of the Job: The primary responsibilities of the Metallurgist/Polymer Specialist I are conducting analysis on materials using a variety of analytical and testing methodologies. Metallurgists and Polymer Specialists examine the structure, properties, and performance of materials using techniques including optical and electron microscopy and other laboratory instrumentation. The position supports failure analysis investigations and materials characterization projects involving metals, polymers, coatings, and related material systems. The Metallurgist/Polymer Specialist I is responsible for generating technical findings, interpreting data, and preparing clear and concise reports for customers.
Duties and responsibilities

Perform material testing, data interpretation, and technical report writing.

Consult with customers to determine the type of analysis required and obtain relevant background information.

Perform materials characterization using microscopy and other analytical techniques.

Assist with regular calibration, maintenance, and verification of laboratory equipment.

Maintain and update chemical and equipment inventories.

Adhere to laboratory quality systems, ISO requirements, and safety procedures.

Assist senior staff with research, testing, and customer projects as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience:

B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Polymer Science, or a related Physical Science discipline.

0-2 years experience in a metallurgical laboratory environment

Academic research, internships, or industry experience involving materials characterization, coatings, corrosion, or failure analysis is preferred.
