The Monitoring, Evaluation, Research & Learning (MERL) Associate will support the implementation of LIFE-MAC Africa's monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL) functions to strengthen programme quality, accountability, and organizational learning. Working closely with the Executive Director, Programme Officers, and the MERL Consultant, the Associate will contribute to data collection, analysis, reporting, research, and knowledge management to support evidence-based decision-making and programme improvement. This entry-level position is designed for recent graduates and early-career professionals with 0–2 years of relevant experience who are analytical, detail-oriented, eager to learn, and interested in building a career in monitoring, evaluation, research, and the development sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation of monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning activities across LIFE-MAC Africa's programmes and projects.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining data collection tools, programme databases, indicator trackers, and reporting systems.
  • Collect, clean, validate, analyse, and manage quantitative and qualitative programme data to support informed decision-making.
  • Conduct routine monitoring visits and support data quality assurance processes to ensure accurate and reliable programme information.
  • Assist with baseline, midline, endline, and other programme evaluations, assessments, and research activities.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, data visualizations, and learning briefs for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Document case studies, success stories, lessons learned, and best practices to support knowledge management and organizational learning.
  • Collaborate with Programme Officers to monitor project performance, track progress against indicators, and support timely reporting.
  • Support proposal development, donor reporting, and resource mobilization by providing programme data, evidence, and analytical insights.
  • Maintain accurate, secure, and organized programme records, beneficiary databases, and documentation.
  • Participate in programme review meetings, learning sessions, and reflection exercises to promote continuous improvement.
  • Perform other MERL-related and administrative duties as assigned by the Executive Director or MERL Consultant.


Skills Required

  • 0-2 years of relevant monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL) experience
  • Ability to collect, clean, validate, analyse quantitative and qualitative programme data
  • Experience developing and maintaining data collection tools, programme databases, indicator trackers, and reporting systems
  • Ability to prepare reports, dashboards, data visualizations, learning briefs, and case studies
  • Ability to conduct routine monitoring visits and perform data quality assurance
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn
  • Experience supporting baseline, midline, endline or other programme evaluations and research activities
