Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and strategic merchandising professional to join Balsam Hill as a Merchant. In this impactful role, you will define and execute product assortment plans for key merchandising categories, driving sales and margin growth across our multi-channel platform. Partnering with cross-functional teams and indirect partners, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Balsam Hill's product strategy across channels and ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional products that bring joy to our customers.

This full-time position reports to the VP of Merchandising for Growth and Strategy, and is expected to work in a hybrid model from our Burlingame and Redwood City offices.

What you’ll do:

  • Brand & Product Strategy
    • Understand market and competition globally to inform global assortment needs, collaborating with channel and market partners
    • Monitor competitor assortment offerings and capture emerging trends
    • Brief and execute needs for seasonal product direction and category opportunities
    • Maintain assortment plans
    • Recommend SKU development and growth/decline categories
    • Create assortments recommendations by channel
    • Understand and use customer filters to ensure product and strategies meet the needs of the customer
  • Category Management
    • Own key merchandising categories and support financial performance
    • Monitor multi-channel performance with rigorous analytics
    • Monitor catalog performance and productivity to recommend and identify opportunities
    • Partner, create and share out product assortment direction and detail with internal partners and with accounts
    • Work with Inventory Planning to optimize profitability
    • Provide seasonal assortment plans maximizing sales, profits, and budget (OTB)
    • Travel to trade shows and vendors to source products and identify opportunities
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Build constructive relationships across departments
    • Ensure processes are followed and deadlines are met
    • Communicate effectively to bring products to life from concept through launch

What you bring to the table:

  • 5+ years of buying/merchandising experience in home or seasonal décor preferred
  • Strong understanding of catalog, web-based consumer behavior, and omnichannel retail principles
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience in private label development and brand positioning
  • Proven track record in buying, team collaboration, and project management
  • Strong retail math and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Deadline-driven and results-oriented
  • Flexible/adaptable with a "startup" mindset
  • Strong business ownership and decision-making skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships across departments
  • Creative problem-solving capabilities

The base pay range for this position is: $99,000 to $124,000. Where an individual falls within that range will vary based on several factors including geographic location and may vary depending on candidate qualifications and experience, applicable skills, and other job-related factors. We benchmark our pay ranges against current external data sources and regularly review compensation for our team members.
