Position Overview:
Haggar is seeking a trend-driven Men's Wear Tops Designer to lead the design and development of shirts and sweaters that complement and elevate our growing casual, dress pant, and tailored assortments. This role combines strong fashion vision with deep technical expertise in fabrics, yarns, garment construction, and fit. The ideal candidate brings a sharp eye for trend, detail, and commercial opportunity while partnering cross-functionally with merchandising, sourcing, technical design, and overseas factories to deliver innovative, margin-driven product from concept through production. Strong storytelling, presentation skills, and a passion for menswear design are essential.
Essential Job Functions:
MUST INCLUDE PORTFOLIO
- Under the direction of the Director of Design, develop high-quality, margin-driven apparel through material innovation and exceptional attention to detail, including collars, plackets, finishes, trims, and garment construction.
- Design and develop woven and knit tops, including shirts and sweaters that align with Haggar’s growing casual, dress pant, and tailored assortments.
- Conduct seasonal market and trend research within the men’s apparel space, maintaining strong awareness of competitors, aspirational brands, fabric innovation, and customer trends.
- Partner with overseas vendors and factories to develop fabrics, trims, washes, and construction techniques.
- Create accurate flat sketches, CADs, BOMs, and detailed product packages for production handoff.
- Provide clear design and fit intent to technical design and product development partners.
- Review and provide feedback on lab dips, strike-offs, development samples, and production samples.
- Attend weekly fittings and collaborate cross-functionally with design, merchandising, production, and sourcing teams throughout the development lifecycle.
- Create compelling trend and concept presentations and sales presentation materials using Adobe Illustrator and PowerPoint.
- Present seasonal concepts and product assortments to internal leadership, cross-functional teams, sales partners, and retail customers. Strong storytelling and presentation skills are essential.
- Translate mainline assortments for Club and international business needs while maintaining brand integrity.
- Provide creative direction, including mood boards, outfitting guidance, and storytelling support to marketing and packaging teams.
- Request, track, and manage development samples throughout the seasonal calendar.
- Utilize a deep understanding of garment construction, sewing techniques, yarns, and fabric development to deliver innovation while adhering to costing and margin targets.
General Experience Requirements:
- 3-5 years of apparel design experience with a focus on men’s shirting and/or sweaters.
- Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design or equivalent relevant experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience working with both knit and woven fabrics
- Experience working with overseas factories and vendors
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes for shirts and sweaters.
- Knowledge of current market trends, competitive landscape, and consumer preferences within men’s apparel.
- High level of fiber, yarn, gauge, and fabric construction knowledge.
- Strong understanding of color evaluation processes including both visual and digital color review.
- Understanding of retail math, costing, and margin requirements.
- Experience working within PLM systems; Yunique PLM experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and pivot quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative team player with strong communication skills and attention to detail.
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience with CLO3D or other 3D design platforms.
- Understanding of Canadian and/or Mexico markets.
