Salary Range: $160,000 - $195,000 CAD


Position Summary:

The MV (Medium Voltage) Manager is responsible for overseeing the design and standardization of custom, medium voltage (MV) products for the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) markets. This role focuses on streamlining the design process to ensure efficient delivery of designs while maintaining high-quality standards. The MV Manager will ensure that products like switchgear and bus bars meet customer specifications, are compliant with industry standards (UL, IEEE), and are optimized for manufacturability. The role involves global operations and a strong emphasis on delivering custom designs on time.

Key Responsibilities:


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Mechanical Engineering design team supporting MV design.
  • Partner with Maintenance Of Line (MOL) team to assure all designs meet IEM standards and policies.
  • Provide direction in meeting the schedule, dashboard standards, and process consistency across sites.
  • Develop and implement efficient workflows to ensure designs meet customer demands. This includes mentoring, training, and succession planning for the team.

Design Standardization and Efficiency

  • Lead efforts to standardize the design process across multiple locations, focusing on reducing cycle time while maintaining accuracy.
  • Ensure that all designs adhere to relevant UL, IEEE, and ANSI standards, including C37.20 for metal-clad switchgear.
  • Optimize the use of CAD software to streamline the design-to-order process, ensuring designs are ready for fabrication with minimal revisions.

Design Output and Quality

  • Oversee the creation of high-quality designs for custom MV products, such as switchgear (5kV to 38kV).
  • Ensure design output meets customer requirements while complying with safety and regulatory standards, including UL listings.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that designs are finalized and delivered to production on schedule.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with the sales and planning teams to translate customer requirements into feasible and manufacturable designs.
  • Collaborate with the production and quality control teams to resolve any design-related issues and ensure seamless handoff from design to fabrication.
  • Provide regular design status updates to ensure alignment with production schedules and customer delivery expectations.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the speed and efficiency of the design process, identifying bottlenecks and implementing solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in MV technologies and incorporate new methods to improve design efficiency and product performance.
  • Ensure that all team members are trained on the latest design tools and methodologies.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in medium voltage design and a solid understanding of relevant standards such as UL and IEEE.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated leadership of cross-functional programs or teams.
  • Demonstrated experience owning operational metrics, dashboards, and reporting for an engineering or manufacturing function.
  • Background in driving cross-functional process improvement, standardization, or governance initiatives.
  • Experience with FEA tools and simulation-based design optimization.

Competencies

Technical Skills

  • Expertise in medium voltage mechanical design, particularly in custom switchgear and bus bars for C&I applications.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and FEA tools for design verification.
  • In-depth knowledge of UL, IEEE, and ANSI standards, particularly related to MV switchgear.

Leadership and Management

  • Proven experience leading design teams in a fast-paced, design-to-order environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and ensure timely delivery of high-quality custom designs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in optimizing designs for manufacturability and compliance with safety standards.
