Reimagining the infrastructure of cancer care.
The Role
Lead oncology and precision medicine expertise for real-world evidence products and services. Scope and validate clinical-molecular datasets, support biopharma research across discovery and clinical development, advise on biomarker-defined cohorts and trial designs, contribute to presales and solution development, train internal teams, and participate in scientific research and conferences.
Summary Generated by Built In
Reimagine the infrastructure of cancer care within a community that values integrity, inspires growth, and is uniquely positioned to create a more modern, connected oncology ecosystem. We're looking for a Medical Director to help us accomplish our mission to improve and extend lives by learning from the experience of every person with cancer. Are you ready to be the next changemaker in cancer care?
A note on level: We're open to candidates at the Associate Medical Director or Medical Director level depending on experience and scope of prior ownership in precision medicine.
What You'll Do
Flatiron Health is looking for a data-and technology-oriented clinician with oncology subject matter expertise who is passionate about real-world evidence (RWE) accelerating progress against cancer. You will be part of the Global Research Oncology team that operates across the US, UK, Germany, and Japan.
In this role you will collaborate with a cross-functional team of oncologists/clinicians, data scientists, epidemiologists, software engineers, product managers, account directors, and clinical data specialists to help develop, commercialize, and deliver our oncology research data and services leveraging a breadth of tools, including artificial intelligence. You will serve as a core medical resource with a particular focus in precision medicine and cancer genomics. You will also help biopharma clients apply clinical and molecular use cases across the full R&D lifecycle-from early pipeline discovery through post-market clinical development. In addition you will:
  • Clinical Oncology & Precision Medicine RO Expert: Serve as a core medical expert unblocking high-volume, custom data requests across oncologic diseases including rare tumor types and complex, multi-omic biomarker profiles. Flexibly pivot across oncologic disease areas to scope, design, and clinically validate custom datasets and analyses for our biopharma partners.
  • Translational Oncology & Discovery Partner: Partner with clients early in their R&D lifecycle to show how clinical-molecular datasets can fuel target discovery, characterize novel biomarker-defined cohorts, evaluate tumor biology, and guide combination therapy approaches. Help researchers validate preclinical hypotheses in real-world cohorts and explore clinical trial findings via reverse translation.
  • Clinical Development Translation: Apply clinical development and trial design principles to help biopharma clients bridge the gap between traditional clinical endpoints and real-world evidence (RWE). Help clients understand how real world data can support external control arms, historic cohorts, or synthetic control designs for niche or rare trial populations.
  • Commercial Pre-Sales & Scoping Subject Matter Expert: Proactively provide clinical and molecular data expertise to support teams during pre-sales, client scoping, and solution building utilising internal or off-the-shelf external AI tools. Partner with scientific and commercial leaders to translate a client's clinical development planning, target validation, or complex inclusion/exclusion criteria into precise data specifications across our various data assets.
  • Cross-Functional Solutioning: Partner closely with matrixed project teams to apply established clinical-molecular frameworks to complex dataset deliveries and custom client requests.
  • Internal Capability Building: Support the development of internal training resources and clinical documentation to help upskill delivery teams on rare biomarker cohorts and molecular data structures.
  • Scientific Contribution: Participate in research study projects requiring physician expertise with support from senior RO leaders, including presenting or speaking at scientific conferences.

Who You Are
You're a kind, passionate, and collaborative problem-solver who values the opportunity to think beyond the way things are. In addition, you are an oncologist with post training experience in clinical, academic or industry settings and direct experience with cancer genomics. This position requires leadership, outstanding problem-solving, analytical and communication skills, and experience multitasking and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment.
  • Medical Training: You hold an MD (or equivalent) with foundational training in oncology, hematology, or a related subspecialty.
  • Experience: You have post-training clinical, academic, or early industry experience. Qualifying years of experience are following completion of a subspecialty fellowship.
    • 1-3 years for the Associate Medical Director level
    • 3-5+ years for the Medical Director level
  • Clinical Development & Discovery Exposure: You have familiarity with clinical trial design, protocol development, or early-phase (Phase I/II) clinical development. Exposure to laboratory translational oncology, cancer genomics, or biomarker discovery research is highly valued.
  • Clinical Agility: You possess deep clinical intuition and are highly comfortable learning and diving into the clinical landscape of diverse, low-incidence rare tumors and complex molecular landscapes.
  • Matrix Collaboration: You are adept at working within a matrix-structured environment with multiple stakeholders and product lines, translating highly technical medical and genomic concepts for non-clinical internal teams.
  • Operational Execution: You are able to handle multiple tasks concurrently, contribute to intermediate-complexity clinical data projects with guidance and mentorship from senior RO leaders, and meet ongoing deadlines in a fast-paced technology driven environment.
