Job Description

REPORTING:

  • Master/OIM
  • Functional report to the Regional Medical Coordinator/Advisor

SUPERVISION:

Pre-Requisite/ Qualification:

  • Valid healthcare practitioner’s license issued by the holder’s national governing or licensing board acceptable to the Flag State maritime authority.
  • Knowledge of local safety-related legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates.
  • Basic computer skills.

Operational Discipline Requirements:

  • Disciplined application and participation in the Task Planning & Risk Assessment Process.
  • This is inclusive of:
  • Understanding and performing the roles and responsibilities as assigned at the pre-job meeting.
  • Understanding the hazards associated with the task.
  • Understanding and effectively implementing the control measures required to mitigate identified hazards.
  • Execute all tasks and task steps in a disciplined manner, following the sequence detailed in the relevant procedures.
  • Recognize at risk behavior or conditions during tasks and call ‘Time out for Safety’ when unsure, or when the job does not go as planned.
  • Participate in After Action Reviews to provide feedback and lessons learned from performing the task.

HSE Requirements:

  • Protect personnel, the environment, and assets by eliminating hazards and reducing health and safety risks.
  • Understand Company OI & HSE requirements applicable to the job position.
  • Execute work in accordance with Company OI & HSE requirements.
  • Call a Time Out when a real or perceived at risk behavior or unsafe condition is observed.
  • Use WorkSight ENGAGE during the execution of planned work.
  • Report all incidents, potential hazards, or abnormal situations to a supervisor.
  • Incorporate the Control of Work process into all work, whether working alone or as part of a team.
  • Understand and implement major accident barriers / controls applicable to the job position.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area throughout and on completion of all work.
  • Understand your role in an emergency, as designated in the Emergency Response Plan and Station Bill.
  • Participate in all emergency drills and exercises, as required.

DUTIES:

The underlying expectation is that all duties are carried out in compliance with the Company Operational Discipline expectations and HSE requirements.
When considering assignment of duties for the Medic, the Supervisor and the Medic will apply the rules of task planning (CAKES) to determine if the assigned role is appropriate. This means confirming that the individuals involved have the knowledge, skills, and experience to carry out the task, and the task plan complies with policy before they are authorized to proceed.

General Duties:

Operations/Maintenance:

  • Operate and maintain the rig’s hospital, medical chest and other medically related equipment.
  • Present and coordinate safety orientation session for all persons arriving on the rig for the first time, where applicable.
  • Provide trauma and medical care to injured and sick crew members.
  • Maintain accurate medical records of personnel onboard; i.e. blood group, allergies, medical history, etc.; Ensure that records accompany personnel in the event of a medical evacuation.
  • Ensure serviceability of all hospital and emergency medical equipment and take immediate steps to rectify any deficiencies.
  • Ensure good record keeping of medication and materials; check expiry dates and prepare requisition when required.
  • Maintain accurate records of controlled/dangerous drugs; ensure the security of these drugs and submit updated record to the OIM on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure cleanliness and housekeeping of hospital and associated areas.
  • Advise supervisors and department heads on injuries and sicknesses involving members of their departments, according to local regulations.
  • Advise supervisors of the need for a medical emergency evacuation of injured/sick crewmember.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all medical and clerical/administrative records under his/her care; Ensure that the data such as wages, employee addresses and telephone numbers are not released to unauthorized personnel.
  • Liaise with local or international shore-based medical facilities as and when required.
  • Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in the expected results is observed.
  • Carry out assigned duties in a safe manner according to Company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Company QHSE policies through leadership and guidance.
  • Coordinate the weekly safety meetings and attend pre-tour meetings as required, where applicable.
  • Organize records of weekly attendance for safety meetings, where applicable.
  • Perform weekly hygiene and safety inspections of all accommodation, toilets, public bathrooms, cabins, storerooms, etc. Report deficiencies to supervisor.
  • Conduct regular inspection and servicing of eye wash stations and first aid kits.
  • Participate in all emergency drills and respond to emergency situations as designated on station bill.
  • Assist, participate in and conduct safety and medical training as assigned by the OIM, where applicable.
  • Closely monitor all aspects of health and hygiene in catering facilities including freezers and refrigerated food storage.
  • Advise supervisors on occupational health, hygiene, nutrition and other related matters.
  • Act as Helicopter Landing Officer in the absence of a HLO to coordinate the arrival/departure activities of the helideck, where applicable.
  • Check and update personnel T-Cards, or equivalent, lists for all muster stations and lifeboat stations regularly to assure accuracy with POB list.
  • Maintain an up-to-date list of onboard personnel, where applicable.
  • Allocate accommodations to joining crews, where applicable.
  • Ensure that personnel and airfreight are properly coordinated and manifested.
  • Maintain files, logs, accounts and records as directed by supervisor.

Personnel:

  • Promote and maintain good working relationships with other departments, third-party personnel and Customer representatives.

Norway Specific:

  • Carry out work environment surveys and targeted work health surveys in cooperation with the Occupational health department.
  • Carry out measurements of work environment factors in cooperation with Occupational health department and occupational hygienist.
  • Carry out health examinations and physical tests of smoke divers.
  • Adaptation of hearing protection.
  • Mask density measurements.
  • Daily and monthly testing of drinking water and bunkering according to procedure.
  • Review and mapping of all brought medications.
  • Degree as a Nurse that is approved by the Norwegian Directorate of Health.
  • Preferably completed specialization in Anesthesia, Intensive care or Emergency medicine (Master’s degree).
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Nurse and minimum 2 years within the area of emergency medicine.
  • Experience in occupational medicine.
