Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Understands and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient in regards to their growth and development process.

  • Patient Care * Prepares exam rooms to meet safety and clinical requirements. * Directs patients and families to exam rooms. * Obtains and document patient’s height, weight and vital signs and perform a manual blood pressure. * Assists with the collection and documentation of patient information such as health screenings, allergies, and home medications. Reports any observations or concerns to the nurse or provider. * Assists the physician in the exam process and with procedures as directed. * Administers immunizations and other injections under the direction of the nurse practitioner and/or the physician. * Performs point of care testing according to established policies, if applicable. * Performs peripheral blood draws, if applicable under the direction of the nurse practitioner and /or the physician. * Collects and labels specimens and ensures delivery to the appropriate department. * Transports stable patients to designated areas and assists the provider in the transport of unstable patients. * Obtains and transports medications and hand delivers to the designated prescriber per the Medication-Administration policy. * Responds to emergency situations.

  • Clinic Operations * Maintains clinic flow, monitoring patient location and wait time. * Maintains a clean, organized and safe environment within the clinic area. * Assures that the quantity of supplies is adequate and appropriate for the clinic needs. * Assures that equipment needed for patient care is available at all times. Addresses any deficiencies or unsafe equipment with the appropriate department. Cleans equipment after use. * Communicates with physicians, leaders, and staff to maintain clinic operations.

Education:

  • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) Required

  • Graduate of medical assistant program Preferred

  • In lieu of this education, 6 months of experience in a patient care role would be preferred

Experience:

  • Experience in a primary care, urgent care, or specialty care pediatric setting highly Preferred

  • Experience in administering immunizations and other injections Preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work with a diverse patient population to promote a culturally competent environment.

  • Physical ability to lift and position patients weighing up to 75 pounds, as well as push and pull when performing cleaning functions.

  • Frequently bends, lifts, twists, reached, and squats.

  • Occasionally push/pulls and does overhead work.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • CMA-Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants preferred

  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required

Patient Care Responsibility

  • Provides care appropriate to patient population and as described in applicable policies and procedures.

Clinic Schedule:

  • Mon-Fri 7:30-4:00pm

Certifications/Licenses:

BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council

Skills Required

  • High school diploma, GED or HSED
  • BLS Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (AHA/ARC/NSC)
  • Ability to obtain and document height, weight, vital signs and perform manual blood pressure
  • Ability to assist providers with exams and procedures, collect and label specimens, and deliver medications per policy
  • Physical ability to lift and position patients up to 75 pounds and perform frequent bending, lifting, twisting, reaching, squatting
  • Graduate of medical assistant program
  • Six months experience in a patient care role (in lieu of medical assistant program)
  • Experience in primary care, urgent care, or pediatric specialty setting
  • Experience administering immunizations and other injections
  • CMA Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA)
