Mechatronics Engineer
Since launching the world's first portable wood-pellet pizza oven in 2012, Ooni has grown into an award-winning, multinational company with a product range loved by passionate home cooks all over the globe. Our mission has always been to design innovative products that spark joy in our customers, and whilst we're incredibly proud of what we've accomplished so far - we're only just getting started.
Are you a highly systematic problem solver with a rock-solid technical foundation? Do you thrive when diving deep into complex engineering mysteries and cracking them wide open? We are seeking a Mechatronics Engineer to join our Tooling and Systems team.
In this dynamic, high-impact role, you will operate as an autonomous technical specialist - parachuting into active product development teams to lead investigations and drive rapid problem-solving rounds. You will work independently across an expanded range of tasks, balancing immediate technical fixes with broader department objectives. If you love variety, technical rigor, and keeping fast-moving projects on track, this is your time to shine.
This is an on-site role, working a minimum of 4 days per week from our office in Broxburn, Scotland.
What You'll Do
  • Primary Technical Resource: Act as the go-to technical support for the Tooling and Systems team, seamlessly dropping into various product delivery project teams to support complex, cross-functional projects.
  • Rapid Multi-Disciplinary Problem Solving: Lead and facilitate deep-dive investigations into unexpected technical issues or prototype failures, diagnosing mechanical defects alongside electronics, wiring, and motor optimisation.
  • Collaborative Troubleshooting: Partner closely with Product Design Engineers on the delivery side, running focused problem-solving and root cause analysis to engineer robust, manufacturable, and electrically sound solutions.
  • Multi-Project Execution: Comfortably juggle several projects at once, managing your own bandwidth effectively to deliver high-quality outcomes across multiple product lines simultaneously.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Translate intricate technical data, root-cause analyses, and test observations into clear, actionable insights for diverse, cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Standard Setting & Continues Improvement: Feed into standard setting across the team, capturing root-cause data from investigations to improve baseline processes and engineering expectations.
  • Rapid Testing & Iteration: Bring a “Fail-Fast” mentality - willing to test, learn, and iterate rapidly to find the best solution.

Who You Are
  • A Precision Fixer: You have a rock-solid technical grounding and take pride in executing work with speed, accuracy, and diligence.
  • Electro-Mechanical Mindset: You don't look at products in isolation; you easily bridge the gap between physical mechanics and electrical systems constantly building your expertise toward Subject Matter Expert (SME) status.
  • An Agile Troubleshooter: You aren't fazed by shifting priorities or sudden technical bottlenecks; you adapt quickly and love the thrill of unpicking complex engineering challenges.
  • System-Oriented: You think both critically and holistically, ensuring that immediate technical fixes align with broader tooling, compliance, and production capabilities.

What You'll Need to Succeed
  • Engineering Background: A degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or a highly relevant electro-mechanical discipline.
  • Electro-Mechanical Expertise: Proven experience troubleshooting and understanding consumer appliances with integrated electronics, including hands-on knowledge of electrical schematics; PCBs; motors; common embedded communication protocols (I2C, SPI etc) and internal wiring.
  • Compliance Consciousness: Solid baseline knowledge of general electrical compliance and regulatory safety standards for consumer electronics and home appliances.
  • Proven Troubleshooting Track Record: Demonstrated experience in a fast-paced consumer goods environment, specifically focused on technical problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
  • Strong Communication Skills: The ability to communicate complex engineering challenges and solutions clearly, persuasively, and inclusively with both local and international teams.
  • Multi-Tasking Mastery: Exceptional organisational skills with a proven ability to actively manage and contribute to multiple technical projects concurrently.

You’ll get bonus points if you have experience with the following:
  • Solidworks CAD software and sheet metal tool add ins
  • Altium or KiCAD experience
  • Ability to write or debug simple scripts (such as C/C++ or Python) to support physical prototyping and map out basic application flows.
  • Exposure to reviewing and troubleshooting schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Knowledge or experience of IPC standards.

What We Do

Why we do what we do? Because everyone deserves great pizza, that’s why. It’s a simple idea, but a noble cause that’s behind everything we do at Ooni. We’re working our wee socks off and won’t rest until there’s an Ooni pizza oven in the backyard of every person everywhere. What we do: We design, make and sell AMAZING pizza ovens. They’re so AMAZING that lower-case adjectives just don’t do them justice. Right now, we sell our pizza ovens all over the world. Hot and fast is how you cook truly great pizza, and- all of our models get hot as hell (that’s 932°F/500°C last time we checked) and cook incredible pizza in only 60 seconds. Before Ooni, if you wanted pizza that good, you had to go to a restaurant or spend thousands on a traditional pizza oven. Not anymore, friends. Work with us: We have a 300-plus-strong multi-national team who are busy designing, selling, branding, internet-ing, events-ing, supporting, marketing, welding, shipping, financing, photographing and dancing (probably) to make magic happen. Ooni is a beautiful machine that grows and learns every day, and it’s really freaking amazing to be a part of it all.

Why Work With Us

Our Impact: We care about building a business for good and paying it forward, too. We’re a kind business filled with kind people. We donate 1% of every sale to carefully chosen social and environmental causes, and we’re a member of 1% for the Planet, who can totally vouch for us.
