The Mechanical & Test Development Engineer is responsible for the design, re‑design, and testing of hardware components, supporting both new product development and on‑market products, as well as contributing to manufacturing activities.
You will be a part of the Hardware Test and Prototyping team and report to the Manager HW Verification.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Design and develop mechanical solutions to improve performance, safety, reliability, throughput, and cost‑effectiveness, including should‑costing and estimation.
- Plan, design, and execute mechanical and reliability tests for laboratory automation systems and hardware components.
- Conduct root cause analysis on hardware issues and implement effective corrective actions.
- Design, create, and validate mechanical or electromechanical test fixtures, test banks, and tools.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve field and manufacturing issues, perform feasibility studies, risk assessments, design reviews, and validate designs through analysis and testing.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Medical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field, with approx. 5 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software and simulation tools.
- Ability to create and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including CAD models, drawings, specifications, and test plans.
- Knowledge of dFMEA/pFMEA, DFX principles, tolerance stack‑up analysis, and GD&T.
- Experience in mechanical testing, handling mechanical components, craftsmanship, and rapid prototyping.
- Strong digital literacy, including Microsoft applications, databases, and web‑based tools.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Working with medical device regulations such as FDA, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and IEC 60601.
- IVD instrumentation or laboratory automation technologies (e.g., clinical chemistry, immunoassay, hematology, urinalysis, molecular, microbiology, flow cytometry).
- Advanced certification in CAD tools or requirements management tools (e.g., Polarion).
- Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Prior work experience in electro‑mechanical systems, robotics, or automation equipment.
- Engineering activities in test development, test optimization, or reliability engineering.
