About you and this role:

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Technologist in Deer Park, Texas.

Provides front line reliability and maintenance for Rotating Equipment to ensure sustained reliable equipment and process operation. Provides technical expertise for Rotating Equipment which may be equipment-based or repair technique-based and impacts the reliability, availability, and maintainability of the system and/or equipment. Requires advanced skills and expertise in a range of equipment, i.e. pumps, compressors, blowers and turbines including procedures, and systems, and/or specialized technical expertise to perform a broad range of complex work assignments. May act as a working team lead, providing subject matter guidance and coordinating work of others.

Responsibilities:

• Monitors equipment performance, identifying and correcting negative trends. Escalates in a timely fashion to avoid EH&S or production impact.
• Accountable for critical work in assigned areas of responsibility.  For critical equipment, ensure that work requests include engineering input on repair details such as clearances, tolerances, materials of construction, welding procedures, etc., and if necessary, provide onsite/offsite technical support for deviations from this data.
• Implements missing equipment monitoring capabilities to sustain reliability.
• Does simple “5 Why” analysis to address equipment failures and provides experience on failures and repair techniques during formal root cause investigations.
• Implement solutions to resolve chronic/repeat failures.
• Evaluate condition-based monitoring activities (Vibrations, Oil Sampling Analysis, etc.) and determine appropriate action.
• Follow jobs at External and Internal Shops and ensure that steps in QC plans are being executed per process.
• Performs, together with crafts or operators, advanced troubleshooting on equipment issues and repairs.
• Obtain quotes from 3rd Party Suppliers for repair work that will be needed.
• Coaches’ crafts and operations personnel on appropriate repair and operations practices respectively.
• Act as a working team lead, providing subject matter guidance and coordinating work of others, as required.
• Develops procedures and quality control plans with the necessary repair details such as: clearances, tolerances, materials of construction and welding procedures. Ensures their consistent usage.
• Assists Turnaround front end loading with job scoping to ensure successful asset renewal and reliability improvement.
• Modify and/or develop quality maintenance repair/PPM procedures, checklists, and QC plans
• Mentors’ other maintenance team members in core job responsibilities, common repairs, advanced repairs, and advanced diagnostics.
• Modify and/or develop spare parts lists in SAP.

Required qualifications:

• Minimum of a High School Diploma OR GED equivalent AND one of the following are required:
  • Associate degree or higher in a related field.
  • Trade School Certification in a related field.
  • In lieu of a degree Dow will consider those with 4 or more years of relevant military experience.
  • 5 or more years in Maintenance/Manufacturing Environment with field experience with repairs and preventative maintenance of Rotating Equipment.
• Must be willing to work weekends, overtime and holidays, when required.
• Valid U.S. driver's license.
• A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred qualifications:

• 5 or more years of millwright, machinist, and rotating equipment experience in a chemical/refinery plant and industrial repair shop.
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, with ability to learn new systems quickly.

• Troubleshooting (Problem-Solving): Strong skills in troubleshooting failures and evaluating equipment designs to ensure they meet service conditions.
• Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external partners.
• Collaboration: The ability to lead by influence and work collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds to achieve common goals.
• Time Management: Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently.

Willing and able to meet physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

• Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Work in tight and closed in spaces.
• Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground. You must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to respirator, earplugs, goggles, hardhat, steel-toed shoes and harnesses.
