About The Role
A Mechanical Sourcing Engineer identifies, evaluates, and manages suppliers to procure cost-effective, high-quality mechanical components and materials for product development, ensuring they meet technical specifications and quality standards. Key responsibilities include performing market research, negotiating contracts, building strong supplier partnerships, and collaborating with internal engineering, operations, and quality teams to optimize the supply chain and mitigate risks.
What You Will Do
Supplier Identification & Evaluation:
- Locating new and existing suppliers, assessing their capabilities, and verifying their ability to meet product, cost, and quality requirements.
Technical Expertise:
- Collaborating with engineering teams to understand technical requirements, evaluate technical proposals, and ensure purchased items meet design specifications.
Strategic Sourcing:
- Developing and implementing strategies to secure components and materials, focusing on cost efficiency, quality, manufacturability, and supply chain resilience.
Negotiation & Contracting:
- Negotiating prices, terms, and contracts with suppliers to achieve competitive pricing and secure favorable terms.
Quality Assurance:
- Implementing quality control measures and working with quality teams to ensure all procured items meet required standards and specifications.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working closely with R&D, Engineering, Operations, and Quality departments to ensure early involvement and alignment throughout the product lifecycle.
Product Lifecycle Support:
- Support the entire product development lifecycle, from new product introduction (NPI) through mass production, ensuring seamless component sourcing and transition.
Supply Chain Risk Management:
- Analyzing supply chain complexities, identifying potential risks, and developing strategies to mitigate them.
Market Research:
- Conducting thorough research to understand market trends, pricing, and material availability.
What You Bring
- A bachelor's degree in engineering or 8+ years’ experience.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, material specifications, and technical drawings.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills are essential for dealing with suppliers.
- Proficient in analyzing bids, comparing supplier capabilities, and evaluating specifications.
- A systematic approach to problem-solving and understanding complex processes, common in engineering training.
- Building and maintaining long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers.
- Software proficiency: strong experience with CAD software and Microsoft office, and ERP system experience preferred
- Previous experience in a procurement or technical purchasing role and Project management capabilities is preferred.
