The R&D Mechanical Engineer is part of a multidisciplinary team who are responsible for developing and refining products and processes for use in the automated logistics industry. The R&D Mechanical Engineer is largely focused on mechanical design, but is also engaged in aspects of electrical, controls, and electromechanical design.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:- Concepting of mechanical parts and assemblies as components of systems greater than the sum of their parts
- Detailed design of mechanical parts and assemblies including application of industry and safety standards
- Employing rapid prototyping techniques to produce functional parts
- Installation/assembly of test modules & systems
- Development of testing criteria and validation of parts/systems
- Occasional presence on site for support of new product pilots
- Utilization of AI tools to improve productivity
- A willingness to understand and plan for system level interactions
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- 3 years of relevant experience
- Solidworks CAD (Solid/Sheet Modeling & Static Simulation)
- Enovia or similar PLM Software
- ASME Y14.5/ISO 1101
- General understanding of control systems, actuators, and sensors
- JIRA or other project management tools
- Ability to work in a multinational development environment
- Ability to work with supply chain representatives on reaching cost & supply targets
- Familiarity with Parcel and Airports Logistics
- ISO 2553/AWS D2.4
- ASME/EN/DIN Component Standards & Directives

Office-based role located in Marietta, GA. May require occasional visits to warehouse or industrial environments. May be expected to perform hands on assembly or troubleshooting of equipment which requires use of hand/power tools and ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Vanderlande requires the use of PPE and adoption of internal safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for self and others
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:Full-Time. Standard business hours with flexibility as needed for global collaboration.
Travel:Occasional travel may be required for stakeholder meetings, site visits, or global team collaboration, up to 10%, domestic and international.
