We are looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer I to support a major North American e-commerce client program within the RMR team.
Vanderlande’s RMR team is responsible for the design, specification, and commissioning of large-scale automated material handling projects throughout North America. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that system designs meet customer requirements, are coordinated with other trades to minimize installation conflicts, can be installed efficiently, and maintain clear communication with on-site teams.
Success in this role requires the ability to balance technical responsibilities with strong collaboration skills when working with customers, vendors, and internal teams. You will help align priorities, improve processes, and contribute to achieving complex project goals. Strong technical capabilities, creativity, interpersonal skills, drive, and passion are essential. Successful candidates demonstrate good judgment in determining when to solve problems independently and when to leverage the experience of senior team members.
Key ResponsibilitiesYour responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Translate sales drawings and specifications into a fully functional mechanical system description that can be developed into a Request for Proposal (RfP) for Project Procurement.
Optimize functionality from the as-sold concept into a working mechanical design within budget, in coordination with other disciplines (Electrical, Controls, Supply Chain, Installation, etc.).
Develop 3D models of systems and manage clash detection.
Produce associated 2D customer approval drawings and installation layout drawings.
Perform spatial analysis for clearance envelopes, egress pathways, and forklift vehicle aisles.
Perform system- and component-level checks based on vendor submissions.
Engineer non-standard mechanical interfaces.
Apply applicable safety regulations and ergonomic standards.
Create motor manifests in coordination with electrical and controls engineering requirements.
Document engineering decisions through design plans, clear installation documentation, and engineering instructions for site supervisors and installation subcontractors.
Travel to project sites as needed to conduct site surveys.
Support installation and commissioning activities both on-site and from the Marietta office.
Maintain project documentation and control using a rights-based database system.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience (or Associate degree in ME/ET with 8 years of related experience).
Willingness and ability to travel domestically up to 33%, with occasional international travel opportunities.
Ability to think conceptually at the system level and translate concepts into detailed designs.
Ability to work effectively in an entrepreneurial environment where teamwork and collaboration are essential.

Knowledge or experience with OSHA 1910/29 Occupational Safety and Health Standards.
Knowledge or experience with the International Building Code (IBC).
Knowledge or experience with ANSI B11 Machine Guarding Standards.
Knowledge or experience with ASME B20.1 Safety Standards for Conveyors and Related Equipment.
Knowledge or experience with ISO 13849-1.
Experience using commercially available project management software such as MS Project or Primavera.
