Ko wai mātou | About us
At Contact, we’re powered by a deep sense of purpose — to build a better Aotearoa by leading the way in sustainable energy. We’re proud to be one of New Zealand’s largest energy generators and retailers, with a strong focus on renewable energy. Right now, we’re investing heavily in our geothermal future. With exciting projects like Te Mihi and Te Huka in the pipeline, we’re expanding our geothermal footprint and pushing the boundaries of innovation. These projects are more than just infrastructure — they’re a commitment to kaitiakitanga (guardianship) and to delivering long-term value for Aotearoa. It’s an exciting time to join us and be part of something truly transformative.
Job DescriptionTe Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We’re on the lookout for a Generation Technician to join our tight-knit Geothermal Maintenance team. This isn’t just a job — it’s a chance to be part of a legacy. You’ll be hands-on with some of the most advanced geothermal technology in the motu, helping to keep our plant humming safely and efficiently. From annual shuts to predictive maintenance, you’ll be right in the thick of it, making sure our gear is running at its best.
You’ll also play a key role in shaping how we do things — contributing to maintenance strategies, supporting HSE performance, and even jumping in to help out at other sites when needed. Whether you're responding to emergency faults or fine-tuning our systems, your mahi will directly impact the reliability of our energy supply. It’s varied, it’s challenging, and it’s deeply rewarding.
QualificationsKo wai koe | About you
You might be a seasoned technician or someone with solid mechanical maintenance experience looking to step into the energy sector — either way, we’d love to kōrero. Ideally, you’ll bring a relevant trade qualification (like a National Diploma, NZCE, or Trade Cert) and experience working with heavy rotating machinery or power generation equipment. If you’ve got machining skills (lathe or milling), that’s a bonus, but not a dealbreaker.
What really matters is your attitude. We’re after someone who’s curious, safety-conscious, and a great team player. You’ll need to be comfortable solving complex problems, working with contractors, and keeping detailed records. If you’ve dabbled in RCM, condition monitoring, or inventory management — awesome. But if not, and you’re keen to learn, we’ll support you every step of the way. Bring your integrity, your drive, and your willingness to muck in — and we’ll bring the opportunity.
Additional InformationThere are a bunch of perks to being a permanent Contact kaimahi. Along with great leadership, teammates, development, and growth and progression opportunities, free health insurance cover, better-than-your-average leave, access to Contact Shares, a ‘Good to be Home’ annual payment toward your home set up & wellbeing, a trail-blazing parental leave policy, bi-annual payments towards Contact Energy products, and more!
