Job DescriptionReporting to the Engineering Lead within the Review & Acceptance Branch of the Joint Design Office (JDO) in Bridgwater, you will be an experienced Mechanical Engineer responsible for supporting the review and acceptance of engineering queries raised by the site Contractor across the Equipment scope within the Conventional Island (CI), Balance of Plant (BOP) and Nuclear Island buildings of a major power plant project.
This role focuses on mechanical equipment, including pumps, valves, heat exchangers and pressure equipment. You will work closely with a range of disciplines and stakeholders, including site Contractors, Suppliers and Sub-suppliers, Construction teams, Quality teams, Project Management teams and Design teams, both on site and within back-office functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and respond to General Queries, Non-Conformances, Change Requests and Exemption Requests raised by the site Contractor, with support from Responsible Designers and site Subject Matter Experts where required.
- Provide appropriate oversight to ensure Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulatory requirements are met.
- Challenge design decisions where necessary to ensure engineering solutions align with project strategy and requirements.
- Coordinate and facilitate support from external organisations and specialist teams.
- Contribute to the resolution and close-out of technical Open Points.
- Assess, manage and help mitigate technical risks.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with Responsible Designers and key project stakeholders.
- Report operationally to the Engineering Lead.
- Communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across site and project teams.
Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in the design, installation and/or commissioning of mechanical equipment, including pumps, valves, pressure vessels and turbines.
- Proven experience working within highly regulated industries such as nuclear, oil & gas, or similar.
- Strong understanding of construction and installation activities.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including CDM regulations and Nuclear Site Licence requirements.
- Understanding of welding engineering principles and practices.
- Ability to build relationships and influence a wide range of stakeholders, particularly within site-based environments.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
- Strong reporting skills, with the confidence to identify, communicate and escalate issues when required.

Skills Required
