Leidos is seeking a talented Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical Manufacturing Facility (MMF) in support of advanced production operations. This role focuses on the design, development, and deployment of tooling and fixturing that enables precision machining, welding, assembly, handling, and inspection activities. The selected candidate will directly support upcoming capital equipment expansion and the next phase of production readiness for high-precision aerospace hardware.

Primary Responsibilities
Design and develop production tooling and fixturing to support machining, welding, assembly, handling, and inspection operations.
Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks, releasing controlled documentation through Windchill EPLM.
Develop workholding solutions for new and existing CNC machining centers, including 3-axis, 5-axis, mill-turn, VTL, and gantry equipment.
Apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and perform tolerance stack analyses to ensure tooling and part interfaces meet functional requirements.
Generate bills of materials (BOMs) and support procurement of tooling components, hardware, and fabricated assemblies.
Serve as a CAD and drawing checker/reviewer for the Manufacturing Engineering team, ensuring accuracy, proper GD&T application, adherence to Leidos design practices, and high-quality documentation standards.
Lead tooling design projects from concept through deployment, including requirements definition, design reviews, prototype evaluations, and transition to production.
Collaborate closely with Manufacturing Engineering, CNC Programming, Weld Engineering, Quality, and Production to ensure tooling supports safe, efficient, and repeatable shop-floor execution.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling ergonomics, setup reduction, machining efficiency, and process capability.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 4-8 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s Degree with 2-6 years of experience from an ABET-accredited institution.
Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software, with experience producing detailed models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
Demonstrated experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
Ability to interpret machining requirements and effectively collaborate with CNC programmers on workholding needs.
Ability to work with limited direction while managing priorities and leading tooling design efforts.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Clear and effective communication skills across multidisciplinary teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Must be a US Citizen and meet the eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience designing tooling or fixturing for machining, welding, assembly, or inspection applications.
Experience checking or reviewing engineering drawings and CAD models for compliance to standards and manufacturing intent.
Experience supporting new equipment integration and tooling readiness for capital machine installations.
Familiarity with Windchill EPLM or other PLM systems.
Understanding of cost, manufacturability, ergonomics, and schedule impacts of design decisions.
Prior experience supporting DoD, aerospace, missile, or reentry-vehicle manufacturing programs.
Experience working in dynamic production environments with evolving requirements.
