Job Purpose
The Software Architecture Engineer is responsible for defining, developing, and maintaining the software architecture of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV). The role ensures that software systems are scalable, reliable, maintainable, and aligned with business, product, and customer requirements.
The Software Architecture Engineer will collaborate closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, Fleet Management and Project Realisation teams to deliver innovative robotic solutions for industrial automation environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in defining and executing the software and technology roadmap aligned with company objectives.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Technical Leader on software development strategy and innovation initiatives.
- Develop software platforms for autonomous mobile robots (AMR/AGV).
- Develop proprietary navigation systems and integrate other third-party systems.
- Develop interoperability initiatives, including VDA5050 and integrations with other systems such as SIMOVE, SINAOS, etc.
- Develop embedded software, HMI applications, communication systems, and industrial interfaces.
- Participate in defining and developing software architecture and technology standards across all platforms.
- Develop scalable, reliable architecture focused on cybersecurity and maintainability of software solutions.
- Promote modern software engineering practices and agile methodologies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Industrial Electronics and Automation Engineering, Software Engineering or a similar qualification.
- Specialisation in software architecture, automation, industrial control, robotics and distributed systems.
- More than 15 years of experience in software engineering and technology development.
- Proven experience in software architecture definition, technology strategy and development roadmaps.
- More than 8 years of experience in autonomous mobile robotics, AGV/AMR systems or industrial automation.
- Experience in R&D environments focused on product development and new technology platforms.
- Experience in product validation, testing and certification.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in electronics, mechanics, control and manufacturing.
- Experience in technical leadership or responsibility for complex software projects is an advantage.
Technical Knowledge
- Software architecture and system design.
- Expert level in C# and strong knowledge of C++, APIs and distributed systems.
- Robotic software development using ROS2.
- Autonomous navigation systems and fleet management platforms.
- AGV/AMR technologies and VDA5050 integration.
- Industrial communications and PLC integration, especially with TIA Portal.
- Knowledge of industrial protocols and networks: Ethernet/IP, Profinet/Profisafe and CANopen.
- Embedded systems and firmware development.
- IoT architectures and MQTT communications.
- Mobile and web application development.
- Knowledge of quality standards, regulations, industrial safety and productivity.
- Functional Safety for mobile robots (ISO 3691-4).
Languages
- Spanish: Native or professional proficiency.
- English: Minimum B1 level or equivalent, with the ability to:
- Actively participate in technical meetings and conference calls.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, presentations, and engineering documentation.
