The Design Engineer is responsible for the design and engineering of pump packages, pump components, layouts, and associated project technical documentation. This role supports the delivery of safe, high-quality, manufacturable, and customer-focused engineered solutions in alignment with Flowserve standards, processes, and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop pump packages, pump components, hydraulic systems, and related assemblies using 2D and 3D CAD tools, primarily SolidWorks.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, models, layouts, bills of materials, and project-related technical documentation.
- Ensure product safety through sound engineering design, review, and verification practices; actively champion Flowserve safety policies and procedures within the workplace.
- Perform varied and complex engineering assignments with minimal supervision, applying appropriate judgment, technical expertise, and prioritization.
- Review and check own work as well as design and drafting work completed by team members to ensure compliance with engineering requirements, drafting standards, and applicable codes.
- Apply strong knowledge of GD&T, machining drawing practices, tolerancing, material selection, and design-for-manufacturability principles.
- Support cross-functional operational and functional initiatives, collaborating effectively with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, project management, and business units.
- Create, structure, and maintain accurate bills of materials in accordance with established engineering and product configuration processes.
- Process and release engineering drawings through Nexus; support BOM activities in Oracle or similar ERP systems as required.
- Drive engineering performance against key measures, including on-time delivery, quality, utilization, efficiency, and customer responsiveness.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities using Flowserve Continuous Improvement Process methodologies and tools.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, procedures, checklists, design guides, and learning points to reduce errors and improve consistency across assignments.
- Lead or participate in standardization and design improvement projects, including preparation of technical presentations and supporting documentation.
- Train, coach, and provide technical guidance to design drafters and junior team members.
- Build strong relationships with internal business units and stakeholders to improve collaboration, responsiveness, and customer satisfaction.
- Promote a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance engineering team culture.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering design experience in pumps, rotating equipment, or a related industrial equipment environment.
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks or comparable engineering design tools.
- Strong working knowledge of GD&T, including basic and advanced applications, and ANSI Y14.5 drafting standards.
- Knowledge of relevant engineering design standards and material specifications, including ASME, API, and DIN.
- Experience creating and managing bills of materials and understanding BOM structuring processes.
- Familiarity with engineering drawing release workflows through Nexus; experience with Oracle BOM systems is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical documents, specifications, and reports accurately.
- Knowledge of machining practices, tolerancing, manufacturability, and design documentation requirements.
