Position Summary 

The Mechanical Engineer for Kodiak Power Solutions supports the design, installation, performance, and optimization of power plant systems. This role partners with Engineering, Commercial, Operations, Construction, and other cross-functional teams to develop mechanical system designs that meet Kodiak standards, customer requirements, and applicable industry specifications. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for managing standard engineering tasks, supporting field operations, analyzing system performance, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance reliability, safety, and operating efficiency. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design power plant systems to ensure specifications, performance requirements, customer expectations, and industry standards are met, as directed by the Director of Engineering.
  • Review field evaluations and performance data to assess plant performance, identify technical issues, and recommend improvement opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve inefficiencies, malfunctions, or performance concerns involving generation units, mechanical systems, and station equipment.
  • Review, develop, and maintain engineering drawings to confirm power plant designs align with Kodiak design requirements and applicable industry standards.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Construction, and other cross-functional teams to incorporate customer requirements and special provisions into plant and package designs.
  • Support mechanical system design activities, including equipment selection, piping systems, layout development, and system integration.
  • Contribute to project execution by participating in design reviews, supporting project schedules, and preparing technical deliverables.
  • Analyze data and develop recommendations to improve system performance, reliability, safety, and operating efficiency.
  • Ensure engineering work complies with applicable standards, codes, specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Complete all required Kodiak safety training and comply with applicable Kodiak safety policies and procedures.
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment for yourself, fellow Kodiak employees, contractors, and customers.

Education, Experience and Training 

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline 
  • ABET accredited course 
  • 2–3 years of engineering experience, with industry-related experience preferred (engines, emissions, fuels and power performance or similar sectors) 
  • Experience designing or supporting mechanical systems in an industrial environment, including compression equipment and piping systems 
  • Experience collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; summarizing findings and developing conclusions 
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, thermodynamics, fluid systems, and equipment performance 
  • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues 
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams 
  • Strong analytical approach to understanding and solving problems 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel 
  • Familiarity with engineering tools, systems, and design software 
  • P&ID Training 
  • BOM Training 

Physical Demands  

  • Extended or non-traditional working hours may be required.  
  • Must be able to stand or walk on uneven terrain, climb personnel stairs and ladders, stoop, squat and/or crawl depending on the directed task.  
  • Requires an employee to frequently type and use computer and other office equipment such as a copier, printer, calendar, telephone, etc.
