What You'll Do
As a Value Engineering Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in evaluating, selecting, and qualifying mechanical components that support Axcelis products and technologies. You'll drive initiatives that improve product quality, reliability, and supply chain resilience while identifying opportunities for cost savings and performance enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Source, evaluate, select, and qualify mechanical components used in Axcelis products and systems.
- Identify and investigate alternative component technologies, materials, and suppliers to reduce cost and improve quality and reliability.
- Serve as the technical interface between suppliers and internal engineering teams, facilitating component selection, qualification, and issue resolution.
- Partner closely with Design Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and Strategic Sourcing to drive value engineering initiatives.
- Evaluate supplier change notifications and determine qualification requirements to support implementation of component changes.
- Lead component qualification efforts, including testing, validation, documentation, and release activities.
- Develop and maintain supplier selection and qualification guidelines, processes, and best practices.
- Support business continuity initiatives by qualifying alternate components and suppliers.
- Maintain component records, qualification data, test results, and supporting documentation within component management systems.
- Participate in root cause investigations and reliability improvement activities to enhance overall product performance.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts focused on cost optimization, supplier performance, product quality, and long-term reliability.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 2-4 years of professional engineering experience in value engineering, product development, manufacturing engineering, component engineering, supplier quality, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of mechanical components, engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across technical and business functions.
- Experience with component qualification and supplier qualification processes.
- Familiarity with engineering change management and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
- Knowledge of reliability engineering, risk assessment, and failure analysis methodologies.
- Experience driving cost reduction and value engineering initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
- Semiconductor equipment, industrial equipment, or other high-technology industry experience.

U.S. BASE SALARY RANGE
$74,935.39 - $112,403.09This base salary range reflects the typical compensation for this role across U.S. locations.
Our salary ranges are determined by role and level; individual pay is determined based on
multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, work
location, and internal equity. The range provides the opportunity for growth and progression as
you develop within the role.
Base pay is one part of our U.S. total compensation package which includes eligibility in the
Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan, and comprehensive benefits package (for regular
employees working 20+ hours a week).
